Question about Teledyne Laars Laars Lite 2 Pool Heater 125,000 Btu / Propane Gas

1 Answer

Heater was working fine but it stopped. I'm wondering what the problem might be. I've backwashed the filter, checked for dirt and spider webs inside the unit, turned off and on the knob....but no luck

If your Laars will not stay lit then the pilot generator is faulty. That is the small brass and copper piped connection near the pilot flame. It must produce 250minivolts in order to open the main gas valve and keep the gas running into the pilot burner..

Black water pours out of the heater system into intex spa

Backwash filter system, change filter media if over two years old, flush out heater. Check water clarity going into the filter system, if dirty..., you may have a broken underground line. Check water clarity coming out of filter system, if dirty.., backwash again and check filter media. Also, Heater boiler headers may be rotting.

Hi, I have a thermoplastic sand filter t450 model. Every time I leave it in filter mode, water from the pool seems to drain out rather than filter water from pool. When I leave it in backwash mode,...

The "spider"gasket in the backwash valve needs to be replaced. It is not hard to do. If you undo the 6 bolts on top of the valve lid the "key assembly" will lift straight out. Inside the valve body you will see the gasket.

Water leaking out backwash exit when filter is in position, how do we stop it

There is a gasket that has gone bad, and it is allowing water to escape to the waste line when it shouldn't. It is referred to as a spider gasket and is inside your backwash valve. It is not difficult to replace.

I have 7 year old Hayward ProSeries, S-244S, H/R Sand filter. I've notice that when I vacuum the pool, dirty water returns to the pool. I've backwashed and the spider gasket is fine. No sa

sand filters only have limited filtration. If the dirt is very fine such as dead algae, it will go right through the filter. Use a clarifier to help give the filter finer filtration. Do not vacuum until you can see what you are doing, then vacuum on 'waste'

The Cam portion of the valve is worn. replace the "Spider Web" 4 times always replace the cam also on the 4th time. be sure to use a good HEAVY pool lube, I prefer Jacks 327.

dirt , foriegn material, spider web in gas feed line to the right side ceramic element of mr heater big buddy. take plastic back of heater
off, many #1 philips or smaller screws. find large air induction holes
in gas feed line to right side ceramic element and blow out with compressed air and fine tiped /straw tipped air blow gun.
straw tipped air blow gun is a better tool for this.
reassemble & try lit mr heater again.
If it dont work after air blow gun the gas feed tube, you didnt get the gas feed tube cleaned out ,***** & span (something still in there ) and will need to disassemble the gas feed tube and inspect for foreign material blocking the gas flow.

If this dont work, need to take the gas feed line off the gas valve attached to Mr. heater red knob. red knob just pulls straight out, might need pliers to grab red knob.
check gas valve output for dirt etc that stop gas from getting through. check inside the gas line to the ceramic burner for dirt,
foriegn material- that stop gas from flowing through strong.

any stopage of gas flow , even a slight stopage or dirverting of the gas flow, spider web is common, will stop ceramic element from burning properly.

needs to be clean ,like a carburator.

After backwashing dirt and sand blow back into the pool...the laterals look fine and sand was replaced 2-3 years ago

make sure the spider gasket in the multiport is not damaged or out of place. Also, make sure the spring is not cracked and the spider gasket seats well when it's on filter mode. If the laterals are good, this is the most likely problem.

Sand and murky water being discharged into pool after backwash

You posted this question in Alarm category. but sounds like either your filter laterals, or the backwash valve are bad. I'd need to know what type of filter, and backwash valve you have. is the backwash valve a multiport, or push/pull slide valve, etc... If it's a push/pull valve then the o-rings, or pucks can be bad, or the piston can be broken. if it's a multiport valve, then the spider gasket may need to be replaced. if it's a top mount multiport valve, then it can be broken inside the filter.

Wicor high rate sand filter P20. When I have it on "filter" there seems to be some water starting to leak from "backwash" hose.I only let it run maybe 30 seconds. Not looking for it to blow out any seals...

If it has a multiport valve, most likely the spider gasket inside has damage or has come out of place. A broken stem spring can also cause water to bypass out the backwash due to not having enough force to seat the seal. Take the multiport apart and check the spider gasket and spring.

Hayward pool motor shuts off in backwash mode.

Check the pump suction filter? To backwash it, is to
open the backwash tank cleanout valve, to clear the dirt out. If this does not work, check the pipelines going to the backwash tank for clogged lines.
