Question about Poulan Pro Chain Saw 46cc 20"

1 Answer

Carb. connector hose to air filter keeps melting.

I have a poulan 3314 chain saw. behind the air filter there is a one inch hose connector to the carb, this keeps melting or breaking from heat and when i use finger throttle it kills engine when it adds to much air to fuel.

The Part is a Tube Intake Hose. i too have seen these crack and deteriorate over time. I'm not sure if there is anything you can do about it. Nature of these beasts. Go Stihl and you will not regret it.

There should be only two small diameter hoses (lines) that connect to the carburetor--one comes from the fuel filter in the tank and the other connects to the primer bulb. If either of these is melting/breaking from heat, someone has replaced them with inferior rubber/plastic tubing or you have some serious engine heat problems! Buy the correct lines from a Poulan saw dealer and replace the junk. If you had that much heat, it would have seized the piston in the engine. After the lines have been replaced, check the fuel filter, air filter, and muffler for plugging. Start the engine and after warm up, open the throttle fully. It should 4-stroke but immediately 2-stroke when cutting. If it 2-strokes at all times, then the 'H' jet needle may need to be adjusted. Don't ignore this as it causes overheating, low power, and possible engine damage. Hope this helps!

Try a few easy things first, hook the fuel hose out of the fuel tank through the filler hole and replace the filter on the end, follow the fuel hoses up to the carb and check foe any signs of fuel leakage, replace the affending hose if cracked.

I have a 2150 poulan chain saw and my fuel lines are rotten and came apart, now I don't know what line goes where can you help me? I want to replace all of them.

You should have three hoses, the hose from the fuel tank with the filter on the end goes to the main fuel inlet on the carb, this is closest to the pump cover on the carb ( alluminium cover held with one screw ) the other connector on the carb has a pipe to the shortest connector on the back of the primer ( suction side ) the longer connector on the back of the primer ( pressure side ) has a hose that returns to the fuel tank, so the primer pulls fuel from the carb, and dumps it back to the tank

Fuel line routing

A typical fuel system and a couple of suggestions follow:
http://www.fixya.com/support/r3706813-2_cycle_fuel_system_repair

An example of an IPL for a "2055 Gas Chain Saw Type 7" follows (may not be your saw):
http://www.ordertree.com/modelinfo/PWE/2055-Gas-Chain-Saw-Type-7/75.2055-Gas-Chain-Saw-Type-7.1.59.1.html

If not your saw, yours can be found here:
Poulan.com
http://www.ordertree.com/modelinfo/POULAN-WEED-EATER/75.59.html
The dash number of your serial number is the type.
I am reasonably sure the upper most carburetor connection (it bleeds any air in the carburetor, air rises) goes to the primer. Leave the hoses long enough to swap them and try it. They can be shortened once you verify the correct routing. Good Luck. HTH

I have a Poulan 3314 saw that is only two weeks old. It works good until it's warmed up for about 20 minutes. Then, when you finish a cut and get off the throttle it dies. It always starts right up again....

The low side of carb setting needs to be shut down. Will speed the idle up and stop from overloading on fuel. Only one catch. It takes a special tool to adjust. Go to poulanpro.com for your nearest dealer.

I need info on a Poulan Pro 445 fuel line routing

I'm so confused. This is reported as a Poulan and McCulloch pole saw, which one? Is it a pole saw? That is the only 445 Poulan I can find. It is reported as an electric but has a fuel routing problem.

If it is a Poulan Pro gas pole saw it is here: PP445 Gas Pole Pruner
The fuel system routing is terrible, but it is all there is.
Fuel Routing follows:
Tank to carburetor (hose in tank with filter on free end)
Carburetor to primer (primer draws fuel from the tank through the carb)
Primer to fuel tank (returns any excess fuel to tank when pushed) HTH
