If the image is tall and thin, then you've likely got your TV set to widescreen mode when it's not a widescreen TV. In your TV's menu, there should be an option to change between widescreen and normal, or one called "Aspect Ratio" and it'll give options like 16:9 and 4:3, change that to 4:3 if that's the option it gives you.

If you don't want a camera with interchangeable lenses, you should buy a bridge camera. Almost all brands have camera's like this. Although the sensor is somewhat smaller they still can make great pictures. Only when using these cameras in low light, it can give some lesser pictures. Now you can buy bridge camera's with more than 30 times zoom, for only a few hundred dollar.
On Amazon a coolpix 34 times zoom, 16 Mega pix, under $250 today. But all brands have camera's like this.

I have a 37inch protron flat panel.Problem is the picture is to big. when you watch a football game you cant evev see any scores on the bottem of the screen. How do I zoom it smaller?

You can zoom it smaller with the hd zoom # button on your set top box remote not the television remote. The button might be format or aspect if it is not hd zoom. But you do have to make sure the set top box is set to the correct resolution for this television (1080i for 1080i/1080p televisions and 720p for 720p televisions). You might also be on the incorrect input on the television so make sure you aren't.
There is also a wide button or view mode or etc. button on the television remote as well.

Shooting with a Nikon zoom such as 18-200 with a Nikon SB800 flash on a Nikon D300 body. I make an exposure of a person and the result is exceptable and then I zoom to the whole group of five people and it...

Depends on the zoom length. If you check exposure at zoom 18 mm then zoom to (lets say) 100 for the final picture the flash will zoom concentrating the flash power as well; the flash gets stronger. This is all explained in the SB-800 manual. On a zoom such as the 18-200 the more you zoom the smaller the f/stop. You are better off with a zoom that maintains its f/stop through the entire zoom range. That way when you check exposure at 18 mm lets say f/2.8 then zoom in it will maintain the same f/stop. Myself I am not a big fan of zooms especially ones when zoomed change to a smaller f/stop.

Picture to big for television screen

Look for a button on the remote that reads Pic size, aspect or zoom. Press that button repeatedly until the desired picture size is achieved.

E mailed pictures arrive too large

reduce resolution on camera itself or choose a smaller resolution when sending pics via Email. Not all Email programs support this. You can also resize your pics before sending by using "XP powertoys" free from microsoft and includes a resizing tool. 640X480 is plenty big for Email.

Picture to big, half the screen is cut off

First off did you get the right remote. I had this same problem and was not able to fix it because I had the wrong remote. You should have DSP mode on the remote near the select / ok button in the middle of the remote. The left and right arrows allow you to move through the different picture zoom / format settings. You will need to set yours to the 16/9 format to get it correct. I use the
RCA Universal Remote 5717P. Works great.

Thanks.
