As per solution 1 You may have a loose connection in the drill or the cable has broken at the cord grip inside the drill. This is a more probable cause from past problems. Another is that the brushes need replacing as they are down to there hast bit of carbon. Also check the plug for loose connections and again the cable under the cord grip.

You most likely have a loose connection inside somewhere, when you turn the drill to another position it creates a gap in the connection, therefore breaking the circuit.

The Drill has little to moderate use over the last 25 years just developed a problem:

Check the carbon brushes on the back of the motor. It sounds like they are worn or the spring that holds them against the commutator is broken.

Bosch csb 550 RE only works in the vertical position

10th March 2013. I experienced the same problem with my Bosch drill. Yes, it also only worked when held in the vertical position. I pulled the drill apart. In my case, the problem was right at the base of the drill where the electrical cord and the drill meet. In that area, there is a flat piece of hard plastic which holds the cord securely in place. This is held down by two screws. Directly beside that is the rubber attachment that hold the drill chuck. Well, right in that spot, there was a gaping hole in the wiring (refer attached photo). It will not be seen, unless you, or a service agent, pull that area apart. Anyway, I shortened the cord, secured the wiring again, and the drill works perfectly. Good luck. Ted.

What is the red light on black and decker drill hp122 indicating

Straight drilling indicator (fig. J)

This tool is fitted with an indicator to facilitate

straight drilling. This feature can be used both in

horizontal and in vertical position.

 Position the tool as required.

Keep the switch (1) slightly depressed without

switching the tool on.

Slowly move the rear of the tool until the red

indicator (22) lights up.
Press the switch further to start drilling.

Taken straight from the manual. If you have any other questions, do not hesitate to let me know!

Milwaukee heavy duty hammer drill only works when pointed upwards. As soon as I point it down the motor stops (or doesn't start with the drill in that position).

could be loose connection at the switch or brush holders. You can go to Milwaukeetools.com to download a breakdown for this tool.

Why doesn't my HP 1501 Makita hammer drill work

The problem was the cord at the base of the drill. The wires were broken, cause by constant bending. After souldering the wires, the drill works perfectly.

Thanks.

My DeWalt 958 drill works fine when it in a verticle or straight position but when I hold it in the down position the motor spins but the chuck does not. Any idea what part I need?

Could be a couple things. First is the gear selector firmly seated in the high/low position? There is a spring clip inside the housing that has a ridge to lock the selector from moving. I would suggest that you go to Dewaltservicenet.com and type in your model number so you can see a parts explosion for this tool, the only other recourse is to replace the clutch assembly which is a component part. Let me know

2 Milwaukee 18VDrills stopped working - NEED repair help

This may not be as easy as you think. The first one my have trouble with the trigger switch, but it could be the motor. Without checking continuity, or replacing them individually you will not be able to tell which one is bad.

Another problem could be the brushes. That is what is most likely wrong with the 2nd one. Remove the 2 black screw caps on the rear of the drill, and remove the carbon brushes. Do they look worn? If so they will need to be replaced. If this is the case the motor may be breaking down, and wearing the brushes down too fast.

The good news is that Milwaukee Tools, offer a 5 year limited warranty, If you have a receipt, or can read the serial number. Take it in, or mail it to a service center. They will take care of it for you if they are less then 5 years old.

The level is meant for 360* of USE not from one single position check both horizontal and vertical... I think that one is a Moveable

Laser? Level?
OH I just found .. is it on a tripod like attachment? there should be a small round "level" on the physical Base of the level itself .... (like the ones your drill would have for drilling down into the floor boards) You must level it that way First.... then you can use it ...
