The Iriver locks up in "system initalizing please wait"

This is for the H10 20GB:

  1. Download the latest firmware from the iriver website
  2. Drain the battery
  3. Connect the player to your computer. Your player should be off and not connected to power yet.
  4. Connect to power.
  5. Press the O button(right button below screen) and hold it down.Press the power button at the same time. This will power the player on in emergency connection mode.
(Please note: this is the only way to power on the player in this mode without getting stuck in the 'system initializing.please wait' screen).

6. Format the player as you would any drive on your computer - right click on the player icon in My Computer and click on Format.
7. Unzip the firmware you downloaded from the iriver website.Follow the instructions (including steps 1 - 5 detailed above) to install the fimware.

You may get an error message and a prompt asking where you bought the player. Chose whatever area/region you want - doesn't make much of a difference to be honest.

My iriver turns on but it keeps saying system initializing please wait... then i wait for 10 minutes and it doesn't do anything


hard drive is probably bad -- common problem. cheapest solution is to buy as-is h10 from ebay with a working hard drive (perhaps it has a touchpad problem), open the unit up and replace the drive.

See this forum for info on how to open the player with a torx tool and a plastic pry unit. forum

Plan b - sell unit on ebay in as-is condition and use money toward a top notch 20gb refurb unit for about $30-50 from sellers like metromania

You must be connected to the internet for this to work: 1.Download the MTP Firm Updater Utility from iriver website - iriverinc.com/support (Audio Jukebox --> H10) 2. Unzip file, run .exe file, go thorugh wizard (if you are not in mass storage mode, it will give you instructions on the wizard on how to change this) 3. Select Recovery 4. Finish going through wizard 5. disconnect iRiver from computer, and wait for it to update - your player should be good.
If the problem happens again, then uninstall Windows Media Player 11 from your computer and rollback to Windows Media Player 10 (you will NOT lose any songs by doing so).

System Initializing Problem


same problem with mine...i tried to use rockbock firmware...it works but you have to be patient...you have to reset it time and time again before it works....it still works anyways rather than the iriver firmware...

Once you've loaded the firmware, you're ready to rock and roll !!!! I had the same problem and now my player is like new :-)

Sounds like you either have a bad hard drive or some of the song files are corrupted.Have you gone into the "Emergency Connection" mode to reformat the player? Rest the player; if it's a 20gb stick a paper clip in the reset hole, on a 5 or 6gb remove and replace the battery. Then connect the player to the PC. Hold the enter button down when you turn it on, it should come on and read "emergency connection" at the top within a black band.
You must go to the iriver.com web site and download the firmware updater for your player. Her is the link; http://www.iriveramerica.com/support/hd/. Then select either the 5-6 or 20gb firmware. Run the firmware program while the player is in the "Emergency Connection" mode. You can also get the firmware upgrade info from iriver. That should solve your problems and in addition you will be getting the latest firmware.

Init please wait


I've just spent the last 3 nights trying to fix that same issue with my sa-ht670 player. I ended up pulling out the dvd tray assembly, and making sure there wasn't anything broken inside or obstructing other pieces. Come to find out, my 1 year old had pulled on one of the trays and it pulled the tray off it's tracks. After that, it would just go to "init please wait" forever. I pulled the side track cover off and aligned the tracks manually. Everything had to be absolutely perfect or else you'd get nothing. After the fact, I realized that there were two holes in the bottom of the player that you can take a spare small gear (which is attached to the plastic cover on top of the dvd tray assembly) and stick it in there and manually adjust the tray positions to make sure everything is aligned properly. After messing with it three days, it ended up being quite simple to fix. Everything works like a charm now. If you need details, feel free to email me.
