Question about Sony FD Trinitron WEGA KV-36HS510 36" TV
Your set may be fried, or at least the power supply or fuse(s). If you feel like you could work on it, open up the power supply (if it's outside of the TV) or open the set itself (if it's an internal power supply). Look for the fuse(s) (the little glass tubes) and pull them out and check them one at a time (in case they're different values and you forget which one went where). If any of them have a broken filament (the little wire inside of them), especially if they have any black soot or brown-ish stuff in them, then the fuse is blown and needs to be replaced with an identical value fuse.
DO NOT REPLACE FUSES WITH DIFFERENT VALUE ONES. I can never stress that enough. On the metal band, it says the current it allows. Match it up with another fuse (it'll be the same size and everything) and bam, that could fix your problem.
If it's not a fuse, then perhaps the filter capacitors in the power supply are shot. If you don't know what they look like; they're cylinders that are usually placed right by where the cord comes into the supply. If any of them have a hole or any black or brown residue around the bottoms, then they're blown and need to be replaced with identical ones (or at least the same capacitance and max voltage). Be careful with capacitors. If they're put in the wrong way, are shorting out against anything else, or have a max voltage that's too low, they can blow immediately and sometimes violently. I've seen them blow out and have electricity arcing across them, frying everything around it.
