Clothes left with grease smears

My Frigidair GLTF1670AS0 is 8 years old.
Recently, for one time only, I found a pool of water underneath the
machine. I have used it several time since and water leakage did not
happen. But then I noticed several pieces of clothes were smeared
with a brown substance which I assume was grease. This smearing
does not occur on every load of wash. Please help...

The brown substance could be iron in your water supply.
It could be a rusty bearing which they are known for.
Look inside toward the back middle of the drum.
You may see rusty spots around the center that the tub rotates on.

There are two real possibilities, both are in the washer. The first is
that the gear box seal is failing, and the second is that the fabric
softener dispenser needs to be dismantled and cleaned out.

"When the seal starts to fail, this oil floats up into the wash water
in the form of small black drops. The stains are almost impossible
to remove from clothing. Also, as the oil is leaking up, hot soapy
water is leaking down into the transmission, which will eventually
cause it to fail. As I recall, the seal wasn't difficult to replace,
but to get access to it I basically had to disassemble the whole
machine. The hardest part was pulling the agitator off the shaft - I
used a slide hammer puller. I'd start by pulling the agitator off and
see if you can access the transmission seal that way

Why is my maytag 2000 washing machine leaking from underneath when it is only 2-1/2 years old

You need to establish the area that you have seen the water pooling and trace it back if possible.Make sure you disconnect the machine from the power point before you conduct these checks. Is the water clean, dirty or oil contaminated. if you can't determine exactly where the leak is coming from try placing a chux cloth around a hose with a cable tie before a wash then check it on the completion of the cycle - make sure the chux cloth does not effect the operation of the machine.

Hi, I recently purchased a 6 year old condo and

The result of cool water temperatures and milder detergents, is a buildup of oil and grease in the machine, which produces oily smells in the laundry. Grease and oil can take many forms, ranging from automotive lubricants to greasy foods to oily toiletry items, and, over a period of time, these oils can accumulate and become trapped in various parts of the machine, particularly in the door seal of front-loading machines.
Run an empty cycle with HOT water and a detergent that contains bleach to remove grease and oil from the appliance. However, be sure to use bleach designed specifically for laundry, as opposed to using regular bleach. ie OxyClean. and or a cup of vinegar.
Best to you.

GE WSXH208FWW washer leaving spots on clothes

If you are getting round dark spots on your clothes after washing, the problem would be cause by a bearing seal leak. What happens is water leaks pass the seal into the bearings, and the grease leaks back into the wash water. To fix it would require the machine to be literally taken completely apart to get to the bearings. Very costly to repair. Sorry.

Maytag washer LAT9334AAM aprox 14 yrs old. Have

Are you using a liquid fabric softener ? If so , try using dryer sheets instead . Maytag is known for making liquid softener look like grease on clothes . After switching for a while , and still grease looking stains , then it is possible for the water to be getting into the transmission and pushing the grease up into the tub . Rare , but happens . Time for another machine if that happens .

Grease coming out after spin into washing

http://www.washerhelp.co.uk/diy-repair-help.html
If your statement is referring to having grease
being left on clothing during washing; It could be the grease seal located on the shaft that drives the "agitator" which is the paddle arrangement in the machine tub.
You can check this by removing the screw or bolt that holds the "agitator" in place.
You do this with the machine filled with water with no soap and no apparel [clothing sheet towels] in the tub at this time.
With the machine filled with water; turn it on and allow it to "agiate" for about a half minute.
That should cause the agitator to free it'self from the shaft.
Turn the machine offf then lift the agiator from the tub, then place the control in the drain/spin position to remove the waer.
After the water is pumped from the machine you can inspect the bottom of the tub for lubricant.
If it is present there are a couple of options, first if it is a fairly new machine and or if you have a manitanance agreement then call them for repairs if it is an old machine without a repair agreement then you might want to consider replacement.
As a severe warning do not place any body parts in the machine while it is operating!
If the lubricant is under the machine possibly you recently had it repaired or lubricated with an exceessive amount applied also again !if it is an older or well used machine particulary it consistently being overloaded , that could cause tranmission seal failure

Weird smell from refrigerator

Is the smell from inside the refrigerator or on the outside? If outside, it is possible a humid smell from the condensate drainpan water evaporating. You could put a very small amount (a couple of granules) of pool chlorine in the drainpan.

Oil spill under washing machine

Sorry, this could be bad. The transmission might have blown a seal. It's a big job to fix, if this is the problem. It might be time to consider replacing the machine.

Grease stains on clothes from LG washer (tromm 2688)

We run a small hotel and have been having this same problem with our LG Direct Drive WM2301HW... but the stains aren't grease at all... they're from sledge buildup in the washer. I found this out when I cleaned the lint trap behind the small door at the bottom left, on front of the machine. I ran my finger around the interior and found it lined with black, stinky muck. Due to the low position of the filter, this area never fully drains, so the muck collects and the bacteria grows. Of course, this means the pipes or hoses to the filter are probably also lined with this muck.... Poor design!!! Try running the washer empty (no clothes) with a couple cups of honest to goodness chlorine bleach. Then run it again to make sure all the stuff that came loose gets pumped out.

Front loader washing machine = black streaks on clothing

I am a recently retired engineer of 20 years once you have ruled out anything getting inside the machine by accident etc, like something in pockets or greasy overalls, then its likely to be the drum bearings, has the machine started to get noisy on the spin the drum bearings are covered by a rubber seal, this seal gets damaged or worn and water leaks into the bearings themselves washing out the grease back into the drum where the washing is, you could also notice slight water marks on the floor underneath the machine on the floor, take the back off and look for water marks coming from the drum outer casing behind the pulley, these marks will be brown and will originate from a small drain hole, if any of the above change the bearings before any real damage is done, either to the clothes or the machine, as repair can be expensive? sorry, hope i have helped you as to where to look at least,
