Question about Mtd Garden

1 Answer

I have a 2004 Troy Built Poney 17.5 Briggs & Stratton Riding Mower runs for about 3 minutes with blades engaged then is starts to die on me. Sometimes if I dis-engage the deck blades it will keep running, then it might die also. I changed the air filter, oil, spark plug, rebuilt the Carb. Fuel Solenoid is wirking fine (bench tested) with battery. Could my belts need replacement being worn out, maybe a sencer switch? I need help with this one sir! Randy Reitan

What color is the spark at your sparkplug? If it's red, it's weak,if it's blue it's hot, clean the magneto contacts with sandpaper and wd40 and clean the coil too, let me know how you did!

I have a Troy-built gtx2654 lawnmower with a Birggs & Stratton engine mod 47777 typ.0229E1 want to troubleshoot charging sys.

You can test the charging system by starting the mower and then unhooking the negative terminal from the batter, if the mower stays running, the charging system is working, if it dies immediately the charging system is faulty, you can also use a tester at the engine to test the voltage at the connectors

Check the belt/s and make sure they are clear. If they are okay, check the governor spring. If the spring is gone, it will start but as soon as a load is put on it will stall. Good luck...Lee

Troy-Bilt Briggs & Stratton 550 restarting

Troy, Unless you are using old fuel (it breaks down after 1 week) it sounds like you have a faulty spark plug. Replace this first, drain any old fuel and replace with fresh fuel (premium unleaded). A faulty plug will work one minute but then fail like you have described.

if you mean that when you let off the clutch pedal and/or engage the blades, the engine dies, lift the seat and make sure the connector is firmly plugged into the switch attached to the seat.
