I am only able to get crushed ice out of my ice/water dispenser.

We are usually on "cube" but hit the crushed ice button and since then, we can't get the ice dispenser back to "cube"

Hello,

If the icemaker doesn't make ice but you can see the arm swing into motion and you hear a buzz for about 10 seconds after it is finished, the water valve is asking for water that isn't arriving. This means the valve and the solenoid are probably okay, but the water supply is not. Be sure the water supply line isn't kinked behind or beneath the refrigerator (1/4-inch copper tubing is much better than plastic fill line).

Check the water line that enters the back of the freezer for a blockage. Find the water shut-off valve behind the refrigerator or under the sink, turn it off, unscrew the copper line from the back of the refrigerator, put the copper line in a bucket, turn on the valve, and see if pressurized water pours out.

Check the tap valve; a bad tap valve may cause the problem where the icemaker's supply tube connects to the water pipe. If necessary, replace the inlet valve and the tap valve. For the tap valve, use the type that requires you to drill a 1/4-inch hole (as opposed to the "self-piercing" type). You can do this yourself, or call a repair person or plumber to install an inline water filter when replacing the valve.

NOTE: The water line attaches to a solenoid at the back of the refrigerator, and then travels to the icemaker. The solenoid may be defective or may not be receiving power. You can try removing the sediment screen inside the solenoid and flushing it with water to clean it; be sure to inspect any seals or diaphragms. Unplug the refrigerator first. Unless you're skilled at home repairs, this job is better left in the hands of an appliance repairperson.

With the above troubleshooting your icemaker should be back in place.

Take care.

Thank you for your initial solution. My ice tray is full of cubes so I believe my incoming water supply is fine, however, I can not get the cubes to come out, only crushed ice comes out, even if I hit the "Cube" dispenser button.

    Hello,

Check the ice maker's shutoff arm to verify that it is operating
properly. To work normally, the shutoff arm should be in the lowered
position. Inspect the arm for anything blocking it or preventing the arm
from moving freely. Lift the arm up to see if the unit shuts off in the
up position. if it does, it means the lift arm is faulty and will need to be replaced.

    Take care.

The arm appears to be working fine. Off in Up position and On in Down position.

The ice holding take is full, I can not get cubes to come out of the dispenser, only crushed ice. The crushed ice component will not shut off.

    THank you.

    Hello,

Remove the ice tray. On the bottom of the ice tray you'll notice a
steel rod that actuates a lever to channel cubed ice to become crushed.
Note the problem is not here. The problem is at the back of the
freezer. The lever that moves this rod from one position to the other
must freeze. Reach into the little opening and gently work the white
lever up and down until it moves freely. It may help to lower the
temperature of the freezer as well. The freezer doesn't have to be on
the coldest setting to keep frozen food. Before replacing the ice
tray... make sure this works for you by closing the freezer door and
going through your selections. Notice the position of the white lever
in the back of the freezer each time you switch from cubed to crush and
    vice versa.

    Or

There is an opening next to the auger that dispenses the ice. In there
there is a lever that must move up and down. It actually seats the metal
rod on the bottom of the ice maker and controls cube or crushed. Make
sure the lever is down (cube position) when you return the basket to the
freezer. hold it down while you slid the rod into the opening.

    Take care

Getting shaved ice instead of cubes

Several possibilities, but check first for cubes that are too small (means too little water is coming in during ice maker fill) and those cubes fracture into smaller bits when they are dispensed.

Another possibility is the cube/crushed plate inside the dispenser is stuck. This is a curved plastic piece that lies next to the crusher blades inside the dispenser head of the ice storage bin. For cubes this place must be retracted (swing away from) the crushed fingers to allow the cubes to pass without being broken up.

Why does my cube ice does not dispense ice?

Check to see if the actuator is lifting up. sometimes these freeze and won't lift the arm that releases that grinding blades. It is in the back panel behind the ice bucket. Remove the bucket and hit the light switch. Then hit the ice actuator flap on the door and see if the little "stirrup" looking thing jumps up. There is usually a clicking sound when it lifts. it could be frozen or just bad.

I have a Kenmore side by side, not sure the model, but it's probably 10 years old or so. It has an ice maker with water, cube and crushed ice dispenser. The ice maker works fine, but it will not dispense...

Most of the time the bin has been removed and not put back in properly. When this happens ice blocks the drive motor. Remove the bin and turn the auger by hand make sure it will turn and is not jammed. Now with the bin out push the light button in that turns the light out and have someone push the button for ice while the door is still open the motor should turn in the back make sure thereis no ice blocking it. If it turns nothing is wrong with the motor. The clicking sound is usually the motor jammed by ice or the auger not engaged on the motor. hope this helps good luck

Ice maker only dispenses crushed ice, won't dispense cubed ice anymore.

I have a GE TFX25ppbaaa refrigerator. The ice maker corkscrew motor would run and provide crushed ice only. The corkscrew motor would not run when the switch was moved to the cubed ice ( half moon) setting.

I replaced the large Light/ water/ crushed ice/cubed ice switch , ( product service number GEH WR55X129 ) ( part number GE 162D6372 PO17 )and it fixed the problem. Cost was about $43.00.

We had thought this was a free service...??? Yes, we fixed it ourselves, after trial and error. We pulled out the ice bin and there is an arm that is moves back and forth beside it. It had frozen up. That is the ice crusher. Thaw it out and it is fixed. By the way, the above posting was not by us--ours stated that our ice crusher did not crush ice anymore. Instead, cubes came out...

Ice dispenser only dispenses crushed ice

You may not need to replace the solenoid.  If you hear the hum, and not a loud click and don't see then rod move, it may be frozen with ice.  Test it manually with your hand, it should be free  to move up and down.  If not, then it is frozen with ice.  Remove the ice dispenser and let it thaw and dry out.  You should then be able to move to rod and it will work fine, at least until it freezes again.  Anyone know how to prevent it from freezing up? Its a continual problem for me

Check and make sure your switch is okay. Some have a switch that controls whether you want crushed or cubes. If it is defective replace it.
