Good day,
Depends who's doing the change out. It requires a long list of specialty tools and equipment not available to the average person, to say nothing of the high degree of technical knowledge the tech would have to possess.
I wouldn't change the compressor until a highly qualified service man tests it first.
This is one area where quality of work far out way's price.

My kenmore fridge with bottom freezer, model#596.785.83801. Both fridge and freezer won't stay cold. Fan on and lights are on. Help!!

Check to see if the compressor in back is running. It could need a new compressor start device. If it is running it could need a new compressor. The compressor cooling fan could be stalled and the compressor is overheating.

Jenn air refrigerator model jbr2088hes is not cooling fan is blowing and cool air is coming into refrigerator

A compressor can naturally get hot the tech leaving parts on the floor is wrong the real way to tell if the compressor is bad is to unplug the fridge find the thermostat and unplug the two wires that plug into it then make a small jumper wire with two male spades and a two inch peice of wire and plug it in to both of the wires that you unhooked from the thermostat then plug in the fridge and wait 20 min if the fridge gets to normal cold which is 37 degrees or less it's not the compressor it's the thermostat but if it don't get any colder than before it may be the compressor but a new fridge is less that 500 dollars

Whirlpool side by side does not stay cool or frozen.

You need to check the overload relay on the compressor and make sure that the coils near the compressor are clean of debris and duct.

I have a brand new mini fridge, the type with a freezer as well. Its compressor has been getting extremely hot lately (too hot to touch), but it's still keeping everything cold and the freezer is still...

It is possible that the setting of the thermostat is too high and that the compressor is finding it hard to reach the set temperature thereby making it work so hard so as to heat up. Now as per design this must not happen but if the thermostat or the auto defrost does not work then the compressor might be working too much and so will BURN OUT in the long run. The compressor might warm up but not HEAT.
So if the fault stays with a lower settting please contact dealer for warranty. If not this seems to be a fault with the compressor and you must stake claim for warranty.

Fridge side won't regulate temp. however the freezer will freeze to -9 and stay right there! How do you test the thermostat? or is this a common problem. The fridge was built in 01' and nothing has been...

the thermostat is either off or on, and it controls the fridge temperature the freezer is just a by product of the remaining gas from the fridge usually -20/30 degrees lower than the fridge, two problems would cause this leaked gas would reduce the cooling capacity of the freezer but the fridge should stay ok although the compressor would be constantly on trying to keep temperature. the thermostat can fail after time not being able to keep a regular temp and not switching the compressor on enough to cool the system. unless you have a frost free where is usually a relay that controls the compressor witch have a life time rating of so many operations.

Some compressors are designed to be externally cooled some are not.
They have to process the refrigerant to certain pressures to operate correctly.
The specific condenser and expansion device do the rest.
By cooling a compressor artificially you make it work harder to do its' job.
Cooler is not always better.

Fridge temp high

freon and a compressor is about as easy as it gets....Loss of freon will cause erratic cooling...also if you can feel it touch the compressor after it shuts off if if feels like its really hot ....bad compressor that kicks an internal breaker....bad news then time for new one also only a airconditioner man can put freon in no 12 . but freon will stay for 50 to 80 years for i tested some old fridges and still cool fine.
