Question about Washing Machines

Hi! My machine has completely packed up. It started when my floor was damaged and it shook so much it kept cutting out at the spin and all the lights flashing but can't remember the error code. After a while if you left it switched on it would come back on and finish the cycle. Now after tripping out more frequently it has totally died with no power at all. Please help.... Thanks Nikky

Hi Nikky.

I am afraid that there is not much I can do at this point.

If the floor was damaged the machine should have been balanced, and the floor fixed. The whola lotta shakin for prolonged time has surely caused internal damage, and now the repair must be done by a technician.
The error code you found were probably balancing error.

Parts that can be easily damaged by shaking are, and that can cause cycle cutting off are:

The door latch soldering:
Machine goes off completely.

The Door lock switch:
Common fault. Cycle stops and may restart with vibration. The switch is tested by jumping its contacts.

Control board connectors and control board solder joints.
Control board can be damaged by vibration. connectors to control board must also be tested. This is done with power off, reading Ohms between two points.

Motor, motor control unit and wiring to motor.
If the motol loses contact , then the machine will stop. This part must also be inspected.

Other wiring problems.

All the testing must be doone with power disconnected. The job is done inspecting wiring and parts and using a multimeter to ensure that there is continuity (circuit closed) between different points. Before doing this part, the door latch is tested by jumping it, as this is the most common fault causing this symptoms.

see:Where do I find parts and diagrams?

If you need to contact a qualified technician ring the number listed on the owners manuals or see:How to get in contact with a qualified technician?

Regards.

Ginko.

HI. I'm sure the code was in reference to a Off Balance issue. If the shaking was violent, as you have stated, It may have damaged the internal motor control board. This board is in close proximity of the actual basket. If there is an off balance issue associated with this type of unit, the basket will wobble, thus, creating a more serious issue, as you are experiencing. The motor control board will indeed need to be replace, asap.It is very important to make sure that the unit is perfectly balanced and on a solid platform or concrete floor.

I will need the entire model number of this unit, if possible. This will allow me to post the correct part numbers and necessary diagrams needed for the repair procedure.

The part number that you will need when ordering your new control module will be 546055600. This module will need to be replace, asap. I would also advise to check all connecting wiring harnesses. Make sure all connections inside the unit are connected well and tight. The violent shaking may have separated very important wires, thus, causing a short, which may have caused the module to fail. This will include the rear terminal box(power cord connection), as well. Inspect the junction points for proper fit.

The main circuit board is at fault.. The cost for one is over $150
If its a Whirlpool or a Kenmore repair it. If some other brand replace the unit with a better brand

The out of balance switch, depending on the make and model, may have been tripped permanently causing the washer to appear dead. Please indicate the make and exact model number of the washer for the specific and precise troubleshooting and repair advice. You don't have to accept or reject and rate this post to add information or post your comments and further questions.

I regret to inform you that I cannot find a service manual for your washer. I suggest you call up a professional technician to do the repair if you really want the machine to work again.

Washing machine spins but not adding water;

There are a couple of possibilities:

  1. Your shutoff valve may be stuck in the 'closed' position; or.
  2. Your machine may have developed a leak and the automatic cut-off might have engaged to avoid damage to your floor or flooding,
If your inspection turns no leaks or dampness, then have the cut-off valve checked.

Wm 2487H. My machine is off balance and shake the house terribly bad. It also has a metalic scraping sound sometimes when the drum spins. I just purchased my LG washer and dryer a couple of months ago. I...

Starting in November 2008--LG introduced "square door" model washers.
These washers will (unlike round door models) perform very well on wood floors.
If the WM2487 washer is on a wood floor--even a tiled wood floor--it will be near impossible to get smooth spin performance.
Some homeowners have had success by adding two layers of 3/4 inch wood under the washer AND dryer.
The following steps were taken:
1) Remove washer & dryer
2) Cut & remove any floor covering (bare wood)
3) Locate floor joists with a stud-finder & mark locations at the edge of the flooring--allows finding the joist locations after 3/4 sheet is laid to floor.
4) Add wood glue to floor
5) Place 3/4 inch wood sheet to floor & drive screws thru wood into joists (as many scews as deemed necessary to fully & completely compress wood sheet to existing floor
6) Add wood glue to 1st wood sheet
7) Place 2nd 3/4 inch wood sheet on top of 1st wood layer and drive screws into floor joists.
8) Add molding if desired
9) Re-install washer & dryer and level.
10) Add one heavy towel into washer tub & close door ( this will mimick an off-center load)
11) Press power "on" button
12) Press "Spin Speed" button & select high speed spin option
13) Press "Start" button
14) When * 9 minutes remaining * is displayed--use the flat wrenchette that comes with every LG washer to "tweak" the adjustment of the front leveling legs. This will allow for "fine tuning" adjustment of the front leveling leg(s) to eliminate vibration / noise during the spin cycle. The rear leveling legs DO NOT need further adjustment.
NOTE: Those with pedestals--check the front leveling legs on the washer and on the pedestals (front only) during spin.

Keeps flashing SE

I recently had this happen but with no error message on my model, the rinse symbol just kept flashing and nothing was happening. I tried running a spin cycle or rinse and spin. The rinse & spin started but stopped when it got to spin. I finally determined that the water was not draining out. I ended up emptying a bucket and a half of water out of the emergency valve near the floor (which spills water everywhere) and found a lint ball that was plugging it. After this I tried running just a spin cycle and it worked.

Hi, Have you heard of problems with the new washing machines that spin so hard they damage floors?

I have not heard of the machine damaging floors. the new front loading machines do spin at a high rate of speed. It is so fast that if it is not on a solid floor it will shake the floor. I have been in homes that have a front loarder on the second floor and it literally shakes the whole house. This is why this machine should be only on concrete floors.

Shook Violently first time on spin cycle

Make sure the washer is leveled properly and all four feet are resting on the floor. If it is level, try running one cysle without any clothes in it to see it is spins without that violent shaking.. you may have also had an out of balance load.. Hope that helps!

I have a Portble DVD player. Everytime that I put in a disk i get the same message. No Disk. I have hooked it up to the battery pack and also to the TV and I get the same message. What can I do to correct...

Mine was doing this also. In messing around with it, I found that if you open the lid and push the lid button (make the player think the lid is closed) so it will spin the disc with the lid open, I could hold the disc and prevent it from spinning. The red laser kept refocusing, and then shook like crazy! After shaking for about a second, I let it go and poof!, it started working again. Maybe a fluke, but I think when it shook it realigned the laser. My 2yr old drop this thing alot and I figured it was miss-aligned. Hope it helps someone.
