It needs to be leveled. Level it from side to side and front to back, then drop the front 1/4" lower than the rear. The hangers holding the deck in place are adjustable.

Before trying to level a mower deck that was previously cutting even and now is cutting uneven you may want to check the spindles on the deck for worn bearings. If you haven't hit anything like a tree stump or a partially embedded rock in the yard, most likely the spindle bearing with house the shaft for the blades have worn and one of them is causing the blade to wobble a bit resulting in an uneven cut. Just found this to be the case in my Craftsman LT1000 Lawn tractor. Take a look before you begin adjusting the leveling rods, you may be surprised.

If deck is level, make sure top of deck is not plugged with grass or sticks. It needs to be clear of debris to make sure it has proper airflow. Next check condition of blades.Make sure they spin freely,by reaching under deck & spinning them by hand. Of course with unit turned off,not running. Are thet knicked, chipped, missing metal, worn or warped? If yes to any of the above. Needs new blades.

SOURCE: My Craftsman 42" lawn tractor

I would suggest checking your owner's manual. There is a leveling process and my Craftsman wasn't leveled at the factory. Once I leveled mine, it cut fine. If you can't find it in your manual, google leveling craftsman mower deck.

42 inch mower cuts uneven, what is the problem?

Several things here could be the problem. Check to see if mower deck is level, measure distance on both side on a level surface. Check tire's for low air. If you've replace the mandrel's lately, some have a left & right side & if not put back together properly this will cause uneven cutting

I have a Craftsman 42" rider cuts uneven

Check your tire pressure first, uneven tore pressure will cause this problem. On the rear of cutting deck on both sides there are height adjustments, if your deck has a rear roller this also can be adjusted to compensate,If your a stout person sitting on tractor can cause unevenes.

Hope this helps.

One blade on deck gives an uneven cut

Sounds like a bent shaft, or the mounting is not flush.

Cuts lawn uneven, one side shorter than other

Was it cutting uneven before you changed blades? If so, you may not have gotten the blade on the shaft correctly. There is an adjustment in the center of the deck hanger on each side. You can turn the 9/16 nut up or down on each side to level it out.

Craftsman 42 inch riding lawn mower is not cutting evenly

The first thing to check is your blades. If one is bent, it will never cut even. It happens a lot hitting roots, antbeds, etc. Mulching blades will bend easier than a straight blade. It's best to take them off and lay one on top of the other to see if they're bent.
