Outlook 2007 Not Responding

Doing the simplest of tasks, such as deleting emails or sending an email, causes the Program Not Responding error on my newly installed Outlook 2007? Sometimes it will come back in minutes & sometimes not at all requiring a restart. Any ideas what may be causing this??

Whenever I open outlook it stops responding and hangs forever (or it would if I let it!). I have to force it to close/restart etc and it takes about a dozen further attempts (usually all morning!) to get access to my email. Thank god for my webmail access!!!

I have just installed Office 2007. Outlook uses an Exchange server. My end user can receive emails, but when he tries to send a new email, reply or forward an email the program stops responding.

    Hello All,

So here's my problem. I have just completed a rollout of Office 2007 at a client. One of the big-wigs is having an issue. He receives emails and can read them and their attachments. But if he attempts to forward or reply to the email Outlook stops responding and must be restarted. The same goes for creating and sending new emails as well. I can't even save a new email as a draft without the whole program crashing. Here is what I have tried. Removing add-ins, disabling security (ESET's NOD32 by the way)even an uninstall/reinstall. For some reason if I start Outlook in safe mode it will work, but that is merely a "band-aid" solution. Please help.

Oh, this is an XP Pro machine w/ Intel Core Duo 1.7GHz CPU and 2GB of RAM in an SBS 2003 environment with Outlook working through Exchange. Thanks.

I have the same issue, but it also happens when i open other programs. However, 99.9 % of the time it is with outlook.

  • desertwoman1 Jan 06, 2009

I also have a very, very slow response with all activities within Outlook 2007, using Vista.

Please notify me if anyone comes up with a fix that works.

    Thanks so much,

    Karen

If you have already installed SP1 for Office 2007, see hotfixes at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/941275/en-us. If it still occurs, though it should not, suggest contacting support.

Further info: If using Word as e-mail editor (default), this is a known problem with the program, reference http://support.microsoft.com/kb/278214/e... to note that Word will have to be closed - at least until MS gets around to correcting this issue. If this provides the answer to the problem please rate FixYa - thanks!

Wanted to check back with you to ensure that you followed the link and obtained resolution to your issue. As you can tell from the response, I spent a fair amount of time researching on your behalf to provide the exact solution to your problem. If you still need further assistance, please post back to let me know what that might be, and if not I would appreciate it if you could please rate at FixYa! Thank you for your consideration!

By the way, I thought you might want to be aware that I pursued and sent feedback to MS in regard to their failure to solve this problem, which has been a known issue through three releases of their software:

It seems completely irresponsible for MS to ignore such a big issue regarding two of the most utilized programs within the suite, particularly when Word is set as the default email editor in Outlook. This should receive more attention and be corrected by MS without further delay - three releases of software with the same issue is not conceivable. Thank you.

Outlook express is trying to send a message with a lot of photos attached. It is unable to do this. How can I delete this message.

Hi,
If your Email is trying to send as soon as you start Outlook Express, you might try this:
Open Outlook Express and go to the top menu, click TOOLS then under that menu, OPTIONS. Under the GENERAL tab, uncheck the box for "Send and receive messages at startup", then click OK.
Close Outlook Express and start it up again. Hopefully this will allow you to delete the Email. Good luck!

Need to delete email w/2 large of attachment after clicking send

1. Go the File menu, then choose Work Offline in order to stop Outlook from trying to send all mails:
2. Switch to the Outbox.
3. You now have two options:
a. Move the message: you can drag-and-drop or use the Edit: Move to Folder menu item to move the e-mail to your drafts folder. This will allow you to re-open the offending e-mail and slim it down by removing the large attachments before attempting to resend it.

b. Delete the message: this will immediately remove the message from the Outbox and put it in Deleted Items.
4.

If you receive an error at this point that says the message is being transmitted, close Outlook, wait for Outlook to exit (you may need to use Task Manager and wait for the Outlook.exe process to exit), and then start Outlook again and repeat steps 2-3. In some cases, the item may not be released until Outlook has restarted.
5. Go to the File menu, deselect Work Offline to start sending and receiving mail again.

Be sure that only one instance of Outlook is running.
You can verify this by openning the tasks manager and ordering process alphabetically.
Kill all redondant Outlook processes.
