I want to change my moniter - Acer Aspire 4720 Notebook

As it is a Notebook PC, the term word u mentioned is called as "Display Panel". U can buy this from a Acer dealer if it worth to repair only.

First you should lower the screen resolution for security or extra precaution purpose or it may so happen that after replacing the monitor - display will not come or will give out of frequency error. Shut down the PC - disconnect the system from power. remove the data cable (generally blue colored plug attached behind the cabinet). Remove the power cable and remove the old monitor. Put the new monitor at proper place - attach the data cable(blue) behind the cabinet from where the previous data cable plug was removed. Give power to the (replaced) monitor. Start the PC. now increase the resolution if required.

in control panel, select the power Options,, Change the preffered plans to HIGH PERFORMANCE then click on change plan settings, change turn of diaplayto never and put computer to sleep never... Remember to turn on your screen saver and put the pc to sleep manually when not using it.

this is a common problem and caused by corrupted registry entries. The popper fix is to reformat or restore the system.

Moniter goes black after start up

you probably changed the frequency, tap f8 @ boot, and load into safe mode. change your frequency to 60 htz and reboot.

When I power up, the moniter goes into "self check mode", then says "moniter is working correctly, check computer power and moniter cables". I hooked the moniter up to an old computer I have and it works...

ya this problem is related with CPU Power Supply unit, please change your old SMPS and thn its working fine...

screen resolution probably the problem if you have another moniter like a crt(which can support higher resolution) change it to the lowest level resoultion and then put in you lcd moniter and see if it works and if it does change the resolution to a comfortable level for you
