Question about Panasonic PT-AE900U Multimedia Projector

2 Answers

The intensity of the screen goes from bright to just a little dim irratically. I have recently replaced the bulb but I can't recall if these symptoms occurred prior to the bulb replacement. It happens on multiple inputs and I have adjusted the flicker control with seemingly no impact. The bulb was not a panasonic bulb but the manufacturer insists it is an oem replacement. I have adjusted nearly every other feature of the menu and not seen any improvement. Any help would be greatly appreciated. By the way. My dynamic iris is making noise on startup as well. What impact would that have if I disconnected it from the board. I have had it on for the last several years but cannot tell the difference between on and off now.

I did reset the bulb timer and I believe the iris is an unrelated issue as I have noticed the noise at black reproduction prior to these symptoms.

I did not disable the iris but I did the powerdown process and unplugged the cables. The symptoms have disappeared. I have had the projector for several years now and have never had this happen. Thanks for the help.

I do understand that you have tried everything you can to solve this problem. I hope my tip for you would help in a little way I can.

You can either disconnect it from the board or maybe try a panasonic buld if it works. The impact will be big.

You can also try to power off your projector, remove the cables and possibly the battery (if it is there) on the device. Press and hold the power on/off key for 10 seconds to drain the excess power then reinsert the cables on it and turn on again the device. Check if the intensity of the screen goes bright.

If symptoms persist, contact your manufacturer...

I will try the power down cycle you describe and disable the dynamic iris. I will let you know if it worked later today. Thanks for the idea. By the way I have the service manual as well.

Hi,
Did you reset lamp timer after lamp replacement? Lamp timer should be reset. Lamp replacement procedure is written in User Manual page-59
OEM lamp can be cause of bright and dim flicker as ballast supply monitors lamp current consumption and adjust itself accordingly to avoid any damage.
You can disconnect dynamic iris system in projector and I think it also can be a cause of flicker in light.
Hope these info will help you.
Thanks.

I did reset the bulb timer at time of replacement. As for the dynamic iris, i would prefer to not disassemble the unit to unplug it from the board if it were not favored as the most likely cause of the symptom. With regards to the iris, I was looking for an example of what I could see that would clearly indicate the iris was functioning properly.

Hitachi 50V710 The picture is dim, then the bulb went out. I replaced the bulb. all works but the picture is still dim. You can barely see the screen durring the day. And can only use it in a dark room...

I've seen this in two scenarios.

First: The housing of the bulb is dirty (the lens the bulb lights onto) and the internal screen is dirty also.

The second: The bulb is wired reversely of the proper way to wire it. This will light the bulb, but will not light as bright as when it is wired correctly!

Only brights work, dimly lit headlamps, no fog lamps

Recheck the bulb number. This happens when the wrong bulb number is installed. Otherwise it could be a bad headlight ground.

Proector image is dim

I have changed the bulb on my LG projector recently. I found the rotating colour wheel to be full of dust. Upon opening the cavity where the light is redirected and reflected onto the imager, I saw all mirrors also had a layer of dust. I don't think it was so dirty that it affected the brightness of the image, but I cleaned it anyway using an earbud. I cleaned both sides of the color wheel as well. You need to be careful in working with the optics of the projector!
