Question about Computers & Internet

1 Answer

HP Pavilion N5415. Original died. Installed hard drive into used one (EBay). A drive ok. CD-Rom seems ok. Display ok. Installing XP. Recovery disks don't get beyond fdisk. Can't install partition to remain. XP setup progresses to partitioning, but "C", "D", & "Install" just a vicious circle. Have printed out and tried many articles and fixes. Just can't get it to install. Any suggestions?

You need to disk partition again with Disk manager tools.
If you have seagate harddrive then download seagate DM from internet .
If you have another harddrive then download disk manager from it's web sites.
Then write That disk manager software on 1 disk then boot computer with boot disk and then insert disk manager disk into rom .
You need to get dos prompt or commanr prompt with bootable disk.
Then locate the DM folder on disk and run DM.exe then you can see disk manger tools then first delete all partition and create again format all partition.
Then you can use it again.
me know if you need further assistance.
Thanks for using FixYa.

Thank you for your reply. It sounds really hopeful. Because of the length of time I have needed so far, and because there have been many types of problems, I would like to reserve full acceptance until I try the solution. I may need additional help before it's done, and I would like to be able to ask you a couple of questions if necessary and if that's ok with you. Thanks again, FixemGirl

Unfortunately, the problem is that your CD ROM has gone bad and you must replace it.
The good news is, that it's not very expensive to do that. You can find them on e-Bay

If you have a Windows Xp CD and your laptop has the serial no. then
1. Insert the CD in CD-Rom and follow the instruction to install the Windows XP.
2. Once you installed the XP, try to get connect with internet, most of the time the LAN drivers installed, plug the Ethernet wire with your computer go to the browser.
3. type www.hp.com
4. Click Support & Drivers
5. Select Download Drivers and type your product no.
6. Install each component Sound, VGA, Wireless from the list.

This is the simple way to recover your computer without recovery CD. for this you dont have to be technical but smart to choose the steps. Good Luck. Amir

You said HP told you to do this. I would call them, ask for a supervisor and relate your story. Branding a hard drive takes software not commonly available to customers.

Machine won't recognize CD-ROM after harddrive format

When booting up select whichever key gets you into the Bios. Normally either F2 or delete. Once in the Bios, find the boot up sequence and by the instructions that will be there to change the sequence change it to Floppy Drive, then CD Rom, then your hard drive with Windows on it. Press F10 to save and reboot.
