This happens only mostly if you connect camera on Firewire AFTER you been PC okay, so plug your camera in the Firewire sockets then put your PC on, then the PC will open the firewire port up for use and set up a user port adrs for the port.

Lost cable to the computer for the DCR-HC52

Well you could use another cable that you can buy from Electronic shops and it's called the i-link cable or 1394 or Firewire. You have to buy the more durable ones which are more expensive as these work better.

I have been told the I need a "fire wire" port to transfer video on my Sony TRV460 camcorder to my pc. I was supplied with the ubs wire with the camera, why isn't it working?

USB and firewire cables are completely different and are not interchangeable. A firewire cable is rarely supplied with a camera and 99% of the time you have to buy one. They are available are most places that sell computer gear.
The camera will have a 4 pin socket and most PCs use a 6 pin socket. If your computer has a 6 pin socket you require a 4 to 6 pin firewire cable. Firewire is also called IEEE1394 or iLink.

What do I need to hookup my dcr-hc52 to my HP computer, running windows 7. My camera did not come with software to install anything on the computer. I have a cord with Dv in end and USB end on the...

Windows 7 does not support USB streaming for that camera (unfortunately). You will need to purchase an i-link (or firewire) cable to transfer video from your camcorder to you computer. NOTE: Be prepared to buy a firewire adapter for your computer (unless your PC already has a firewire input). You should be able to purchase both the cable (approx. $38.00) and the adapter (approx. $10.00) from your local "big box" electronics store.
I hope this solves your issue.. :)

How do i make a ieee port on the computer to connect via ilink cable

Well you need to buy the Fire Wire Card from PC World, the card pushes into the side slot and then at the back of your PC you will see the Fire Wire port you now have, you will need a standard Firewire cable and then your all set.

How to connect my dv via usb

The USB connection will only download still images from the camcorder. You need a firewire cable and card in your computer to download video. If your computer has a firewire port already, you just need the cable. Hope this helps =]

Did you install the HDMI Drivers for BOTH PC & Camera? Without those it will never work. I don't think that there will be any firewire drivers for it? Anyway thats what you need to do.

Imac 9pin firewire port does not recognize my Sony DCR-HC52

Perhaps a USB to Firewire dongle will help sort you out. As you have discovered those two are not compatible. To make it work, you MUST get a 4 pin card and install it, or the USB solution.
