How do i fix the heater in a 1999 dodge dakota sport i was told i have to drop the steering colomn and dashboard.

Before resorting to replacing the heater core, first verify that the thermostat in the engine is operating properly. Sometimes the thermostat will stick in the open position. When this happens, the coolant does not get hot enough to provide sufficient heat. Also check to make sure that the heater core is not clogged up with rust or other debris. You can do this by disconnecting the heater hoses from the heater core [done from under the hood]. Place a garden hose against the upper metal tube and turn on the hose. Water should come out the lower hose without a lot of restriction. If debris or rust comes out with the water, flush the heater core out, using the hose, until there is no debris and no restriction in the heater core.
Replacing the heater core is a big job. I would suggest that you entrust this to a pro, unless you have lots of experience working on cars. The video linked below gives an outline of what is involved. See

Would a defective heater control valve cause my ac to blow hot air?

What year, make model and engine size? A lot of times if the heater control valve does not close all the way or the flap is deteriorated it will let hot water continue to come in the heater core. When this happens and you cut the a/c on it tries to blend the two which results into warm air coming out when a/c is on.

A lot of air comes out of firebox when lighting then flame goes out coleman heater

What do you have your heater hooked up to? A 20# propane cylinder? Are you using a red high pressure regulator or a silver low pressure regulator? Is this the original regulator that came with the heater? I could be a regulator pressure problem or a dirty flame sensor that simply needs to be lightly cleaned with sand paper. It's also possible your igniter is faulty or your brain box has a short. I've come across a few that just needed the brain box pushed a little in a certain direction to make good contact and work again, using a small wedge behind it. Sometimes just fiddling with it and cleaning it is all it needs. Good luck. Douglas

Winding like a motor trying to be started, over

You probably have water in the bottom of the blower housing, and need to remove it and empty it. Be "VERY" careful, because water and electricity do not mix. if you cannot do it, you should call a furnace company to check it and give you an estimate. Also. make sure the power is off before even touching the unit.Your situation "IS" very dangerous.

Heater turns off leaving lots of smoke and is hard starting

If this is a kerosene heater, the wick is most likely not adjusted up enough,or the wick is contaminated. The fuel could be contaminated also.Remove the old wick and replace it,and refuel it with clean kerosene, after you pour the old out.

1997 Explorer heater/ac blower stopped working. Was making clacking sound prior.

you can try to smack the motor to see if it comes on (old trick)
its where the passanger feet go smack the large black box on the bottom. if it comes alive you need a motor. and by the sound of the clacking, also sounds like a blower motor. be advised that you can **** things off the pass floorboard when in recirc mode. i have removed lots of debris from blower motors. :)

The heater won't start.

First thing make sure: · Ensure that your circuit breaker or fuse is working properly. · Be sure the heater is plugged in and that the electrical outlet is working properly. · Check for any obstruction. If you find any obstruction, turn the heater ?OFF?. Unplug the heater and wait a few minutes for it to cool down. Carefully remove the obstruction. Plug the heater in and turn it on again by referring to the OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS. Second, If you're NOT still under warranty you should at least open the heater and look for anything strange like a blown fuse. A lot of times you can buy replacement at a local electronic or hardware store and they're easy to replace.
