Question about Samsung RS2630SH Side by Side Refrigerator

1 Answer

Samsung rs2556sh I have a samsung rs2556sh. The freezer quit working. There was ice around where the air blows in the freezer, so I unplugged it for 3 hours. When I plugged it back in the refigerator worked, then it quit within 2 hrs. The repairman put a new control board in. Now the freezer works but not the refrigerator. The repairman thinks the whole refrigerator is shot, but I want a second opinion. Thanks!

If the freezer section is working and control board is replaced. But still the problem in Refrigerator section. This indicates the problem in evaporator section or the problem in the thermistor .Replacing whole unit is not a good option. You can get the above parts properly checked by other technician. There is a fault but it can be repaired.
thanks.

if you can hear the fan still blowing but no cold air coming up to fridge section a common problem with bottom mount freezers is the door gets left open and the air ducts freeze up and the air can't blow up to the top.turn the control off in the freezer.remove the top shelf and the door, check to see if there are any screws one on each side of the slide arms,if there are remove them and lift the door up and out, with a hair dryer melt out the ice by blowing the hot air up each side of the back wall, also if the back inside wall of the freezer is covered with ice or like snow then you have a defrost problem but if there's no ice on back wall do what i said and blow the air up the sides of the back wall through the vents until no more water is seen dripping through the vent holes, then turn the freezer back on and check to see if you feel cold air blowing in through the vents in the fridge section,if you feel cold air then you're all set,if not keep blowing the hot air up the sides until it's melted out.let me know what you find, you'll know if the door was left open, ice will be on the ceiling near the light switch and sometimes on the top of the freezer door.
However if fan has quit totally then it will have to be replaced since it is responsible for cooling the upper part of the fridge

Temperature control

The freezer is usually cooled by the compressor, the fridge is then cooled by an evaporator fan motor ($30). If this fan seizes or slows down then the fridge warms up (it sometimes starts squealing before this happens). The fan may spin, but it if goes too slowly, then it would blow enough cool air into the fridge, especially if it is opened quite frequently.

If you think it is the evaporator fan motor:
Check to be sure you can get a replacement fan first, they last about 4 - 5 years. Can get from a parts supplier or electric motor company.
UNPLUG fridge. Located usually in top of freezer behind a vented cover plate. Remove cover, remove screws holding fan in, may have to cut wires. Replace with new motor, make sure the fan pushes air into the freezer area and doesn't spin backward drawing air from the freezer area.

I have a samsung rs2578sh refrigerator. The freezer is okay but the refrigerator is not working.

Check the air circulation fan in the freezer compartment for proper operation and be sure its not frozen with ice. If its ice build up, check the defrost circuit. If the fan is clear but not running, replace the fan motor.

Ice on back wall but not freezing food and rattle noise. Moved all food to other freezer

This is a fairly common problem with these types of refrigerators. The design is set to defrost every 12 hours and be down for 1 hour to allow ice to melt on coils. More often than not the ice never fully melts and creates a blockage in the coils and in turn slows air flow. You can remove the screws in the back wall of freezer unit and unsnap the ice maker plug to allow access to the coil. Gently tilt the back plate forward. You can then unplug the ref. and help it thaw with a blow drier. If you are not comfortable removing the back plate then you can just unplug the ref. and let it thaw on its own. this may take a while. try to remove as much ice as you can from the back of the freezer wall by hand and prop the door open for a couple of hours to ensure that all the ice melts. The rattling sound you are hearing is the fan blades hitting the ice that is built up around it. As a precaution I recommend that these type of refrigerators get manual defrost simply by unplugging about once a month for about two (2) hours. I hope that this will help you out with the melted ice cream. Good luck.

Freezer not blowing air - bad smell in fridge

Your automatic defroster coil is open and needs to be replaced along with the fan in the freezer that blows the cold air around and also blows air into refrigerator.

Bad smell down below is food rotting in that section because it is not cold enough.

RS21 DCNS FRIDGE COOLING FAULT

There is a fan behind the plastic. This distributes the cold air throughout the fridge. What happens is this fan stops turning due to freezing up. A temp solution is to unplug the samsung for 6-12 hours to allow the ice to melt from around the fan. This is a known design fault. It is easy to dismantle the plastic cover and defrost the frozen fan with a hair dryer, this way the fridge will only be off for about an hour
