Question about Canon PIXMA MX850 Multifunction Printer
I have a Canon Pixma MX850 Multifunction printer that WON'T TURN ON. I've followed Canon's advice to unplug the machine, let it sit for 20 minutes, and then replug it back in (stand alone). It will NOT turn on for anything. I was an electronic tech years ago and could do some simple troubleshooting. I've pulled out the A/C Adapter Assembly module, but I don't see a way to test it without a pinout. I'm looking for advice and/or a SERVICE manual and PARTS LIST. Your help will be appreciated! Thanks, Mark.

The error indicates that the slide the cartridges run on has debris buildup or a component of the printer is blocking the cartridges ability to slide.
Steps to fix...
1. Unplug printer from power source
2. Slide the cartridges to the middle and inspect the slide for a buildup of "gunk" or pieces of debris. Remove what you see and clean the slide with a lint free rag and isopropyl alcohol
3. Look for any part of the printer that may have become dislodged or moved from vibaration and use and try to put it back in to place.
4. Get some "canned air" at any computer or office supply store and blow the printer out thoroughly.
Plug the printer back in and it should work again.

The 6A00 is a Canon generic code for paper path jam.
Move the printhead carriage back and forth a few times.
Check the purge unit: Moving the print head assembly will not clear a purge unit if its jammed with paper, paper clips, push pins, screws, cookie crisp, flower bud pods or the like.
Press the ink pads down in the purge unit.
Please come back and just gave a vote, it will gave me some satisfaction to know am helping some one so I will keep on helping.

SOURCE: Pixma 4500
12 times is listed an AP position error:
Carefully slide and top covers off to reveal the print head. There is a device that slides back n forth and acts like a window cleaner squeegie on the printhead. This mechanism is probably stuck at its full extention rather than being back at home base. Every time you turn it on and off you should see it try to move but it will seem to be stuck. Give it a little assistance and that should release it. It can get glued up with drying ink. The mechanism that drives the sliding squeegee relies on a spring for it to return and the spring isn't strong, so the whole thing jams up...
which is probably what the code means - jammed mechanism.
