Microwave is running  but will not heat up anything.
There are few possibilities which you will have to get checked
common things are
1) loose high voltage wire.
2) poor solder joint on board.
3) magnetron.
4) power relay.
------------
If in case the time display on the microwave is counting down and the internal fan of the microwave is running properly then this NO-HEAT problem relates to bad door switch.
But in most cases its seen that bad magnetron is the reason of no heat in magnetron.
Check this link to get more details for magnetron and other parts

It wont heat up

If it seems to be running normally, but does not heat, then the problem is most likely in the high voltage circuit. If it smelled funny before quitting, then look at the high voltage rectifier or the high voltage transformer. Otherwise, the magnetron or high voltage capacitor could have failed.

Not heating efficiently; works but doesn;t heat as well

If it is taking longer to heat things than normal then it would appear the Magnetron to starting to wear out, this is a normal sign of inefficient power from the magnetron & would need to be replaced.

Unit seems to have a sensor problem: wont pop popcorn, or heat cold food but marginly heats water. During popcorn we get error message re. Sensor.

in 99 % of cases the problem is the magnatron it is a very expensive part and unless the microwave is well worth the money we normally write the units off

sorry (

My microwave starts however food does not heat up.

Micro wave as the name suggests produces heat when the micro waves aimed at an object causes the water molecules inside the object to vibrate hence producing heat. The gadget responsible is the magnetron. If your magnetron is not receiving ht voltage or receiving but faulty, then your micro wave wont work please take precaution when opening micro wave due to high voltage caps that remain charged sometimes even when it is off.check the high voltage fuse/ diode and capacitor if they are fine and the step up trans former o.k then the only option is to replace the magnetron

JVM1640WB007 MICROWAVE RUNS BUT DOESN'T HEAT. WHAT COULD BE THE PROBLEM?

It is most common for the magnetron in GE microwaves to go out. This is the part that heats the food. Basically everything on the unit works and runs like normal but it wont heat. Check your owners manual for the warranty on the magnetron. They usually put a 5-7 year warranty on the part itself. If you dont have the owners manual check for it online. Hope this helps you.

FAN!!!

Oh, it turns out the the microwave was over heated and the fan was cooling it. The fan will automatically turn on and stay on until your microwave reaches normal temp. just unplug your microwave and let it cool off. then plug it in and everything should be just fine.
