Question about Washing Machines

1 Answer

Hi. I have a Kitchen Aid top loading washer (KAWS700Q0) and the inner tub is really loose and moves all around. It makes a really loud banging noise that can be heard from the other side of the house. It's spinning around inside like crazy. What is wrong?

Hi

Thanks for using FixYa. Please check that there are no stucked small clothes, safety pin, lint or debris in the water pump. If the pump is fine then the squeaking sound may be due to gear dogs in the agitator or bad gear case. Also check that the spin bearing or basket drive is not worn or seized. These components allow the inner tub to spin freely inside the outer tub and there will be a loud sound during the spin cycle. Please do accept the solution if the issue is resolved or post a comment for further assistance.

Thanks

Just so you know, there is no squeaking sound. It's a loud, banging, clanging-type noise like the whole thing is going to launch into outer space. Does that make the problem easier to diagnose?

    From what
you have described the issue seems to be with the bearings going bad and to
resolve it should be replaced as if they are bad will make the drum loose to
cause this loud banging noise. You’ll have to take off the top and back and
    then check all these things.

is resolved or post a comment for further assistance.

    Thanks

Broken spyder. The part that holds the drum to the axel. Grab the inner tub and see if you can move it around inside the outer tub.

Washer making loud noise and wont spin

Check and see if the inner drum is loose and floppy.if it is, it's likely the bearings have collapsed, and require replacement...If the drum feels stiff and tight, it could be that something is jammed between the inner and outer drums. Both situations could be costly...Get quotes....Good luck...Nomess

My MAH9700 Front Loader washer is shaking a lot and making a loud banging noise when spinning.

unscrew the 4 screws inside the detergent dispenser and lift the top and see if the counterweight on the tub is loose, otherwise it may be the drum bearings going bad on the inner drum

Sounds like something is knocking around in the back of the washer. On the spin cycle, the noise is very loud anyway, but it sounds like there is something banging around inside. The drum moves around...

ok open the door
make sure the thing is empty
try to move the inner tub
if you can shke it side to side anything but around
you have a broken spinner support

Drum banging is it bearing when on spin

Hi,
This is difficult to work out as there are so many different symptoms. Here are my thoughts -

Dust from carbon rushes is black. Grey dust usually comes from a loose concrete weight. Loose tub weights are rare on this model but they cause a loud knocking noise which is often worse when the washing machine is revving up to spin and dying down from a spin (suspension problems are also often worse at this safe too). It's not normally a metallic sound though.

If the noise is coming from the motor banging against the sides of the machine then it will make the machine move when it happens. The whole machine may jump or move to one side. The motor often thumps the side of the washing machine on Hotpoint washers where the motor is fitted at the top of the tub and over to the right hand side. This is a daft place to fit a motor and only .I think they've eventually stopped now though.

It is normal to be able to push the drum to the side so that the motor hits the casing. If the suspension has gone, the tub should be twisted and leaning to one side more than the other or it just could be very loose. It's difficult to check suspension if you don't know how it should feel.

If the noise is coming from the inner drum hitting the heating element or throwing an object like a £1 coin (trapped between the inner drum and the outer tub) around, then the washing machine will be stable but the noise would still be a horrible metallic knocking. This is one cause I suspect.

Thank you for contacting Fixya.com

Loud knocking sound

You have a bad drive block. This block is located under the inner tub. A special spanner wrench is required to remove the tub. You really need to call a service tech for this repair.

Front Loading Washer - Load Banging During Spin Cycle

hello, your problem is that your shocks are bad and need to be replaced. you can access them by removing the front lower panel. make sure you unplug the washer first. you will see 2 of them on either side of the tub. i belive you can twist the upper portion and then remove the bottom screew and remove the shock. of course before you start you should have the new shocks. and make sure their is no water in the tub.

It could be the drum bearings. If you can move the drum up and down, the bearings is worn. It could also be the balanceweight that sits on the top of the outer tub that have gone loose. It's usually made of cement, or cast iron.
