Yes, clean the mechanism. Often sanding dust gets in the slides and prevents it from a full throw.

Use compressed air to help clean it.

Serp belt keeps coming off

for a temp fix get a bar of ivory soap and turn the car on and hold the soap on the belt dont ask me why it works but it dose then check your tenison.

check alternator, not holding charge,also change belt and belt tenisoner.this may be causing battery to fail. I had same problem on my car.

It appears impossible to get to the serpentine belt to replace it. How do you get to it? What has to be removed?

That is one job I dont enjoy but has to be done, put a ratchat to the tenisoner and release the belt, make sure you draw the diagrame of how the belt is routed before you take it off.

there is a tenisoner that you can put a wrench on and turn it, not sure witch way but it will turn the tenisioner so that it will loosen the belt

How to repace tenison pully

first releave the tension as you normally would by using a breaker bar and socket and move the serpentine belt aside. Then you remove the center bolt on the pulley itself. Install new pulley and replace the serpentine.

there should be a diagram under the hood showing you how to put the belt back on if the belt came off all on it own you may need a belt tenison if you have an autozone near you they will print you off a diagram for free or your local dealer in the parts department
