Hello,
The leading cause of the refrirgerator not working while the freezer is is good,is a defrost problem,do you see a bunch of frost built up on the back wall inside of the freezer?? If yes ya see frost build up of frost in the freezer it will be a problem with the automatic defrost system. This tip i wrote covers what to check when it isn't defrosting by itself.

Freezer part does not keep food frozen...and does not make ice cubes. What is the problem? We have cleaned the coils, etc. & it still does not help.

Here is a manual with decent infomaiton and troubleshooting tips. Since I can't walk you through each step of the troubleshooting process and see the results on the meter, I hope this will help you some.

Do you hear the compressor kick on and the beginning of a cycle - normally there is a click sound and then the fan kicks on? If it isn't kicking on, then look at the compressor relay.

Are you getting an ice build up behind the panel in the freezer compartment? If you are then check out the defrost heater, defroster thermostat and the defrost timer.

Please feel free to ask anything you don't understant and I will do my best to answer you.

Hi i have model sb540w and the fridge doesnt get cold enough but the freezer is fine called an engenier and he did not understand wat the probs was as the fan works at the back.

Your unit has one condensor unit, so if the freezer side is freezing, then the problem has to be in the freezer section.

First check to make sure that the fan is operating in the unit. If it isn't then it is probably the fan, BUT maybe not bad so hold off replaceing it. If the fan is working then you probably, have a defrost problem - when the defrost assembly stops working ice build up behind the rear panel in the freezer compartment so the thermostat gets a false reading and won't send tell the fan to kick on to send cold air to the refrigerator section.

So you will need to take the food out of the freezer, remove the shelves, remove the inner rear panel in the freezer compartment and look for ice build up. If you find it, then you can either unplug and leave the door open to defrost or use a hair dryer to hurry the defrost up - DON'T USE HOT WATER!

Once defrosted, you can dry the unit out and then turn it back on, use your make and model number to order the defrost assembly, but you can use your refrigerator and freezer until it arrives.

My freezer keeps icing up. I took everything out of it thinking I might have something blocked, but the problem persists. Any ideas?

By icing up do you mean frost inside the base of the freezer ? Keep in mind whenever freezer is opened frequently / long periods moisture enters and causes frost to build up - now if your brand / model is a frost-free refrigerator with automatic defrost, then you have a faulty defrost timer - this timer will usually kick in at set intervals or as needed.

If your refrigerator was working fine before and you developed this problem with freezer icing up you will have to get it serviced - and have them check your defrost timer assembly and its heating elements if both are functioning properly. If your model has electronic controls it would be a good thing to check the control board as well.

Freezer won't work in garage in cold weather

Modern fridge/freezers are built to automatically defrost themselves. To do this they require that the room temperature is well above freezing to allow the defrost to take place. If you site the freezer in too cold an environment it is unable to defrost itself and will eventually stop working. It sounds strange but if it is too cold the freezer cannot work. The solution is to buy and fridge/freezer that does not automatically defrost itself if you want it to work in a cold environment.
