Question about HP Photosmart 8250 InkJet Printer

Error message - calibration failed.

After inserting all new HP cartridges and running the "alignment" procedure, got error message on printer display: calibration failed.
Talked to HP support techs who had me clean where the cartridges are inserted with damp que tip, then re-insert cartridges. Still got the same message when trying to align. They then told me it was a hardware problem and would require me to sent printer in for repair (not feasible from cost standpoint) or just buy a new printer and they would give me a rebate. Their offer was less than interesting to me.

SOURCE: Aligning printer after new ink cartridge inserted

SOLUTION: Start the cartridge alignment by performing a series of button presses from the front panel of the product.

  • HP PSC 1200 and 1300 series:
    1. Turn on the HP PSC 1200 or 1300 series product.
    2. Disconnect the USB cable from the all-in-one.
    3. Press the sequence of front panel buttons below to start the print cartridge alignment process. The button-press sequence must be completed within ten seconds. It might take several tries to complete the sequence within ten seconds.
      1. Press and hold Cancel .
      2. While holding Cancel , press On .
      3. When the Check Paper and Check Print Cartridge lights begin to blink simultaneously, release both buttons.
      4. Press Cancel again.
      5. Press Copies .
      6. Press Paper Type .
      7. Press Color Start Copy . The alignment page will begin printing. If the alignment page does not print, repeat the button-press sequence in this step.
    4. When the alignment page has printed, place the page face down on the scanner glass and press Scan . The alignment is complete when the On light stops blinking.
    5. Reconnect the USB cable.
CAUSE: This can occur if the cartridge alignment is canceled or times out without a valid print cartridge alignment stored in memory.

SOURCE: align cartridges error

This means one of the cartridges is defective, they cant align if they cant print.  What i did to fix this problem is insert 2 working cartridges and get it to align properly, even if they are low on ink, then lift the cover and the cartridges will move to the center.  When this happens pull the power cable out, then insert the full non functioning cartridge. Plug the power cable back in.  I tried this with a color cartridge, the color cartridge was non functioning but i was able to print in black.
Basically you align the cartridges and then swap them so the printer thinks they are still aligned.
The color still doesnt work and it is probably a defective color cartridge.

SOURCE: The printer doesn't recognize the new original HP color cartridge

There is a small spring that holds the ink cartridge in the ink holder. You will see it stick out from the right hand side of the ink holder where the ink cartridge slides in. If that spring isn't being held to the ink holder by two plastic tabs, (I.E. the plastic tabs are broken) the printer will never recognize the cartridge. If the printer is still under warranty I would contact HP or an authorized repair center for HP. Both the black and color ink holder has this spring. I know of no way to repair this kind of breakage.

According to the HP website, this error code means the ink system has failed, and the unit will need to be serviced by an authorized HP repair technician - An Ink System Failure or 0x Error Message Displays on the HP Printer...
..
However, you can try resetting the printer first -

Reset the product
  1. Without turning off the printer, disconnect the USB cable from the rear of the product.
  2. Remove the cartridges from the product.
  3. Wait for the 'Insert Cartridges ' message to display on the control panel.
  4. Disconnect the power cord from the back of the product.
  5. Wait 60 seconds.
  6. Reconnect the power cord. If the product does not automatically turn on, press the Power button.
  7. Reinsert the cartridges, and then close any open doors on the product.
  8. If you receive a prompt to print a calibration page, do so.
  9. Reconnect the USB cable to the rear of the printer, and then try printing again
  10. If the reset fails it will require a service.
  11. NOTE: if you are using refilled or remanufactured cartridges try the reset with genuine hp cartridges as they will be recognized as original authentic HP cartridges by the printer

Try to reset the printer by doing the following;

1. Turn ON the printer.
2. Disconnect the USB printer cable at the back of your printer while the printer is ON.
3. Remove the cartridge.
4. Wait for the "Insert Cartridges" message to display on the message screen of the printer.
(You can skip this if your printer does not have this feature.)
5. Disconnect the power cord from the back of the printer.
6. Wait for 1 minute.
7. Reconnect the power cord.
8. If the printer does not turn on, use the power button to turn it on.
9. Reinsert the cartridges.
10. If the printer prompts you to print a calibration page or requests for a cartridge alignment, please do so.
11. Reconnect back the USB printer cable and try to print.

This is the proper procedure andif this fails, take it in for service.

Disconnect the Universal Serial Bus (USB) cable from the back of the product, but leave the product turned on.
Open the cover of the product and remove the print cartridges.
Close the cover and wait for the Insert Ink Cartridges message to display.
Disconnect the power cord from the back of the product and wait for one minute.
Reconnect the power cord. If the product does not automatically turn on, press the Power button.
Open the cover and reinsert the print cartridges.
Close the cover. If prompted, print a calibration page.

Everytime I switch on the printer,it starts alignment and prints a page


Try removing the two cartridges and power off unit.
Disconnect the power source and allow the unit to set for a few minutes.
Reconnect the power source and wait for error messages to come up on unit or computer.
Re-install the first cartridge and wait for the next message.
Again, insert the last cartridge and wait for the unit to acknowledge alignment procedure.
Answer yes to alignment and complete procedure.
After a complete alignment procedure, the unit should register the completion of setup.

Hp psc 1610 alignment error


replace the colour cartridge aLSO AS IT NEEDS some specific colour to start this allignment and to complete but the colour is not getting printed so this error.
remove the cartridges from the printer.unplug the printer for some time.then again ON it and insert the cartridges and try .
sometimes it helps.
