I press the start button and I get the green and yellow Archos logo and that is all. The HDD indicator lights up, flickers on and off then stays on. When placed in the DVR station the charge indicator is not on, but the logo is still on screen. Have tried implementing the system recovery, but still shows green logo all the time. Have tried the master re-set function behind the battery, but still showing the green Archos logo all the time. I can hear the hard drive working inside, but still only the logo on screen at all times. It will not boot up. The Archos was working OK. No problems until I stopped mid way in a film and turned the machine off, and now cannot get it started. It will only reach to the green logo at start off and no further.

First, start with the easy stuff - remove the battery and press the reset button - hold down for about 10 seconds. replace the battery, attach your AC adapter and attempt to start the player. If it still won't start, you may have a damaged DC-In connector OR the charge circuit may be bad - a TI Chip on your main board sometimes goes bad - it can be replaced. Also, if the battery is absolutely dead - no charge left at all, the player will not start even with an AC adapter
When ARCHOS is displayed on the screen, immediately press and hold the TV/LCD button until the Recovery mode starts (white screen), without pressing any buttons connect the USB cable your computer should detect it. If it does it may mean that the software is corrupt. while in recovery mode select repair disk. You could also try reinstalling the firmware.
A couple of procedures you can try: 1. Do a soft reset. Press on the power button for about 15 seconds; 2. Do a full/hard reset by removing the batteries and pressing the master reset button; 3.
Do a Systems Recovery by powering on and immediately press/hold the TV
button till Recovery Mode is displayed. Follow on screen instruction of
Forcing Touch Screen Calibration. You may need also to format the
internal HD but that would mean you loose whatever data is inside.
the above is not corrective, it is possible that as you posted it may be a hardware issue. Some users have reported serious hardware or firmware
problems with the 704 that would require replacement by the
