SOURCE: john deere runs then stops

I fixed my mower stalling issues on the L111 by loosening the gas cap. I ultimately drilled a hole in the gas cap and screened the hole. Sounds ridiculous but without that venting the engine would run approximately 20 mins and die. It was also much more difficult to start the next time. Something else to pass along to whomever might view this... I replaced the cranking battery with a battery that had allot more cranking amps and I no longer had hard start issues ( this was after I vented the gas cap). Hope this helps.

SOURCE: blade belt diagram for John Deere LX178 Riding

Remember the belt rule, V of the belt goes in V pulleys.Flat pulleys that are stationary or move get the back of the belt. You can figure it out. Its not rocket science. Remember at some point there has to be a tensioner, usually gets the back of the belt if its a flat pulley. U may have to remove the spring and then reattach the spring after the belt is routed.

Ow do I tighten the belt on the mowing platform

Most JD mower decks use a spring loaded tensioner on their belts. Make sure that the belt is threadded thru the pulleys the right way and you may find that considerable effort is required to set the tensioner in position. Be very careful to ensure that if the grip slips the spring flies away from you. I use the hook on a cargo strap to pull mine into position. Normally there is a similar tensioner on the drive belt for the wheels. This is more challenging to get to.

How do I get the transmission drive belt back on

With the engine OFF, tread belt on by hand as much as you can, with heavy gloves on reach underneath deck and grasp mower blade and turn it until belt is on. You need the extra torque from grabbing the blade to slip it on over the the pulley's edge.

Hello. My x300 john deere ride on mower starts but will not move. The lever at the back is pushed in where it is supposed to be. can you plese help?

There is an adjustment that tightens the drive belt. This is the drive tensioner pulley. If you need a schematic or instructions on how this is done, go to John Deere dot com and they will have repair manuals and parts schematics.

John deere x300 will not move

It sounds to me like the traction drive belt slipped off of a pulley or broke. The easiest way to get to the traction belt is to remove the mower deck. There is no easy way to replace the belt, however. It runs from the transaxle at the rear to the engine at the front, around idlers. Let me know if you would like assistance in replacing the belt and I can walk you through it, Daniel.

For round fender 110. To remove \ replace drive belt that has slipped off. Remove 2 of the 3 bolts from large pulley on transmission right side. This will allow enough access to slip belt onto pulley. Replace bolts. hope this helped Tim

It is better to replace and not adjust the wheel drive belt, too loose and it slips, too tight and you ruin very expensive bearings YOU can not replace...Belts are cheap, bearings are very expensive!
