Question about InFocus ScreenPlay 4805 Multimedia Projector

1 Answer

I've had my projector for years now and worked perfectly. But now, there's a shadow on the right side of the screen. I cleaned the lenses and there's still a shadow. With my observations, it looks like it's a burn from the inside or there's a piece inside the lens. The right shadow is very consistent. Any suggestions?

Remove the bulb, look for any obstructions or damage. If you see none. Replace the bulb, usually replacing the bulb also replaces the lens, the frame around the bulb, and other components all at once making it an easy one stop fix for most visual display problems.

My unit seems to work fine, except there is a dark shadow covering the right third of the projected image. Is this a sign that the bulb is going out?

this is the light tunnel needing to be adjusted or replaced because is has collasped due to the heat given off by the lamp during the life of the projector.

BenQ MP610 Video Projector Shadow

This model is now out of production. It was sold as one of the bottom end of the "DLP" projectors. It's basically a "good cheap" model using a 1.5cm DLP mirror. And being as such, over the year the "thermal cycling" has most likely caused the alignment to shift. It could have collect some dirt in a quadrant of the lens too. That's possible too. Being a manual focus, there is at least no "auto focus mechanism" to worry about. That can be a pain to adjust. You could fix this yourself with some luck. It either has three screws to adjust or it has an ellipictal ring arraignment and you'll need a two correct size spanner wrenches. If it was in front of me I could tell you right away. In any event, if you turn either one of the screws the wrong way it can get worst or if you don't have the correct spanner wrench to adjust it either you can be more trouble. Plus you need to do this with a light source "on" so you can see the effect. Your best choice in this case is to go to a camera repair shop. One that doesn't send their repairs out if you can. (you have more control over the repair) It's an "adjustment and cleaning" and shouldn't be that expensive to do. Please let me know the results when you decide.

Do you have the projector inside a hush box? If so, it could be too far back in the box. Readjust and see if that removes your shadow.

You may have a haze on your lenses. Have you tried cleaning your color wheel and associated lenses? This procedure is for the skilled since you must disassemble your projector. Keep in mind that the color wheel is VERY, VERY fragile. Use a lens cleaning agent or 91% isopropyl alcohol and q-tips. The agent must not leave a haze. Have plenty of time and patience since this may take you about an hour just to clean the color wheel. Did I mention that the color wheel is VERY fragile…

We have had similar issue w/ multiple LP70+ projectors. The units get to be 1-2 years old and suddenly the right vertical edge of the display is distorted. There is usually a shadowed vertical bar that clouds about 3-5% of the horizontal space from the right edge.
What's the cause?
