I have a HP Photosmart 375 which is seldom used. Lately, the paper feed has stop feeding the photo paper. The printer acts like it wants to print but cant get the paper into the printer, I have had this printer over 5 years and it's the first problem I have had with it. Ink and paper are all HP products, good and fairly new. Any solution other than replacing the printer will be greatly appreciated. George W0521

  • rb12345 Jan 13, 2009

I have a Canon Pixma MP150 and the paper will not feed. I already made sure the paper was in far enough, in the right place, and that the paper guide was also in place. The printer makes noises like the ink jets are printing onto nothing, as the paper doesn't move through at all. It sounds like the rollers on the paper feed are moving but it won't grab the paper to pull it through. Even if I try to push it in further, hoping it will grab the paper, it does not. Thanks for your help!

  • Anonymous Mar 20, 2009

When switched on the printer normally initialises itself and there is usually some noise from the mechanism during this process. Now there is more noise than there was and no attempt is made to take in paper which is in the "auto sheet feeder" If I attempt to print something I get the "out of paper" message. About 4 weeks ago I ran out of ink, (5,black,8 yellow and 8 cyan) These have now been replaced but since I fitted the new inks I have had this paper problem. 2 of the new inks are not genuine Canon replacements. Could it be that one of these is causing the problem?

My paper wouldn't feed either. After the initial panic, I looked at the manual. Wow, what a concept! All I needed to do was CLEAN the rollers. Don't worry, all you have to do is follow these instructions. And it worked. Hope this helps.

1 Make sure that the machine is turned on, and then remove any paper from the Auto Sheet Feeder and Cassette.
2 Press the Paper Feed Switch to select the paper source to clean.
3 Clean the paper feed rollers.
(1) Select Settings on the HOME screen.
See Basic Operation for the Operation Panel.

The Settings screen is displayed.

(2) Select Maintenance, then press the OK button.
The Maintenance screen is displayed.

(3) Select Roller cleaning, then press the OK button.
The confirmation screen is displayed.

(4) Select Yes, then press the OK button.
The Paper Feed Rollers will rotate as they clean.

4 Repeat step 3 twice.

(there are more instructions in case this doesn't work, but you'll have to look that up yourself- these were enough to put my printer back to work)

Select the FEED SWITCH button and make sure it is set to automatic. You can feed it through the back too, so that is probably the problem. Hope it helps :)

How to load evelopes HL 2140

Brother Hl 2140 Printing on thick paper, labels and envelopes 2
When the back output tray is pulled down, the printer has a straight paper path from the manual feed slot through to the back of the printer. Use this paper feed and output method when you want to print on thick paper, labels or envelopes.

Open the back cover

Open the manual feed slot cover.

Using both hands, slide the manual feed slot paper guides to the width of the paper that you are going to use.

Using both hands, put one piece of paper or one envelope in the manual feed slot until the front edge of the paper or envelope touches the paper feed roller. When you feel the machine pull in the paper, let go.

• Put the paper into the manual feed slot with the side to be printed face up.
• Make sure that the paper or envelope is straight and in the proper position on the manual feed slot. If it is not, the paper or the envelope may not be fed properly, resulting in a skewed printout or a paper jam.
• Do not put more than one piece of paper in the manual feed slot at any one time, as it may cause a jam.
• If you put any Media (paper, envelope and so on) in the manual feed slot before the printer is in the Ready state, the media may be ejected without being printed on.

try to run paper from the side bypass tray. if still no go, you may have something blocking the paper from feeding. if it feed from the side bypass but not the cassette, paper feed tire may not be feeding paper or the out of paper sensor maybe keeping paper from reaching paper feed tire

Paper doesn't feed from inside on XD 100 work center (10 years old, lightly used). Despite a full paper drawer, I get the "out of paper" error message.  I can copy by feeding through the back.

On this machine, the feed rollers might be worn down.
Not seeing the machine and by the description. there can also be other possible problem areas, deep in the machine itself.
Does the paper feed partially out?
If it does not, are there paper black scuff marks where the rollers were trying to feed the paper.
Can you hear the solenoids feed the paper?
If the paper does feed and seems crooked, it is possible the paper tray springs need to be stretched out just a little to push the paper tray plate more on the feed rollers.
Make sure the tray is completely up in the latched position so the feed wheels will touch the paper stack itself.
If you have a two paper tray, make sure you tell the machine what size paper you have for each tray.
Run paper in each tray.
Good luck.

MP830, how to retrieve faxes in memory to my PC

-

- A margin appears
on printouts.
2 B Paper feed
Improper paper
feeding:
- Multi-feeding
- Skewed paper
feeding
- Paper jam
- Paper feeding from the
ASF
- Plain paper
- Highest print speed
(Custom setting to 5)
- In the high temperature
and high humidity
environment
- In the low temperature
and low humidity
environment
- With the maximum
amount of paper set (13
mm)
In the high temperature
and high humidity
environment, paper
becomes wavy; in the
low temperature and
low humidity
environment, paper
curls significantly.
When the maximum
amount of paper is set
in the ASF, and if the
paper-return tab fits in a
wave or curl of the
paper, the tab slips and
does not catch paper
properly, causing paper
feed problems.
- Reduce the amount of
paper set in the ASF to
half (approx. 5 mm
high).
- Multiple sheets of
paper feed at the
same time.
- Paper feeds at an
angle.
- A paper jam
occurs.
3 C Print results
Skewed paper
feeding (at the
level of +/- 1%)
- Paper feeding from the
ASF
- Credit Card size
Since coaxial tolerance
between the pinch roller
and the LF roller, which
determines the paper
feed alignment, is
0.2mm, skewed paper
feeding can occur.
However, according to
the field data of current
models, the skewness
level caused by the
coaxial tolerance of
0.2mm is within the
criteria of +/- 1%, thus
the phenomenon is left
as is.
- Align the paper guide to
the paper edge tighter
than usual.
- Paper feeds at an

- A margin appears
on printouts.
4 A Print results
Soiling on the
back side of paper
(lines or streaks
parallel to the

- After continuous
borderless printing of
small sized paper (such
as 4 x 6), when a larger
sized paper (such as A4)
is printed.
- With Photo Paper Plus
Double Sided or
postcards, the
phenomenon is likely to
be noticeable and to be
complained of by users,
as printing is performed
on both sides of such
paper.
In borderless printing,
printing is performed to
the size slightly larger
than the paper size, and
ink off the paper is
absorbed by the platen's
ink absorber. Absorbed
ink may attach to the
platen rib(s) after
several dozen sheets are
printed, causing soiling
at the leading edge of
paper or on the back
side of paper.
1. Perform Bottom plate
cleaning (from the
MP driver or via the
operation panel) up to
3 times*1.
2. If soiling on the paper
still remains after 3
times of Bottom plate
cleaning, wipe the
platen rib(s) and their
surroundings with a
cotton swab.
- Paper gets
smeared.
- The back side of
paper gets
smeared.
Soiling on paper in
automatic duplex
printing (lines or
streaks
perpendicular to
the paper feed
direction)
- Automatic duplex
printing (Photo Paper
Plus Double Sided,
postcards, plain paper)
On the rib(s) inside the
sheet feed unit used for
duplex printing, ink
mist may accumulate,
smearing paper.
Temporary operational
solution:
Cancel automatic duplex
printing, and manually
print each side of paper.
Cleaning by user:
1. Perform Bottom plate
cleaning (from the
MP driver or via the
operation panel) up to
3 times*1.
- Paper gets
smeared.
- The back side of
paper gets
smeared.
- Even after Bottom
plate cleaning
was performed,
and the platen
ribs were cleaned
with cotton swab,
paper gets
smeared.

Paper doesn't always feed, and when it does, the paper rolls through without printing

Get a Q-Tip and alcohol. Wet Q-tip with alcohol. Stand in front of the printer and look down where the paper feeds through. On the righthand side you will see a big roller that pulls the paper through and a little one right up under that. Clean both of them with the alcohol and Q-tip. Press the paper feed button and as it trys to act like it is feeding the paper, clean the roller with the Q-tip. Do this until the paper feeds through correctly.
