Question about Panasonic Viera TH-50PX80U Plasma TV

1 Answer

My TH-50PX80U will turn on but does not give a picture of anything. The power indicator will light up (and stays lit) and the screen "lights up" as if it were starting normally but there still isn't any picture. Also the power indicator light does not flash as in other problems that I read about. It probably is useful to know that this is all the result of a thunderstorm and a surge (apparently) not doing its job. Is this an expensive fix or am I out a tv?

You may very well be out a TV, as the image layer of the screen is likely fried. For the most part, it's cheaper to throw it out and buy a new one rather than getting your hands on a new circuit board for it. I suppose if you could locate the specific source of the malfunction, you could replace the component(s), but that can be a REALLY lengthy process that involves having to possess extensive knowledge of digital circuits and probably some special equipment for running tests.

had the same problem. Sent to local Auth repair shop and paid the $60 bench fee. They diagnosed it as needing a new "A BOARD". Downloaded a service manual for my TH-50PX80U and found the part to be TNPH0716. Only later to find out there are several versions of this part and you must have the 2 character suffix to get the right one.

I got the user manual from for $5.00

When I get mine back from the service center, I will go to and lookup my specific part number. The generic one is listed at $54.95

    Good Luck.

Turn on the TV, red light stays on, picture goes blank after a second.

I have the same problem. Factory reset did not help (hold Vol-minus on set and menu on remote five seconds, then unplug). Can there be something in service mode that would help?

I had the same problem and the only way I could trun the TV off was to unplug it. I took it to a shop and they said it needed a Main board/ A board. They seemed to think that it was a victim of a power surge. The part is around $170 used and $500 new. It is a very rare board so i am still looking for a used one. The part number is TNPH0716ABS.
