Question about Cell Phones

7 Answers

Samsung F480i I stupidly typed in the master reset code into my phone while messing about. I have lost all my info and pics etc. I desperately need to recover these. I have tried recovery programmes, but they don't recognise the phone as a drive and hence cannot access it. I have also tried BitPim, but that doesn't read my phone properly, doesn't even recognise what is currently on the phone. Can you help me with another option, or show me how to allow my PC to recognise my phone as a drive. regards Chris

    Hi please help.

Please read message thread as it explains all of my problems.

I would like to bypass the Samsung softwareon the phone itself so that I can read it as a drive and then try and recover lost data.

I have replaced the phone with a new and and am willing to sacrifice this phone in order to get the data back...

    Suggestions?

If you have stored the data on the phones internal memory, you have absolutely no options. This memory is volatile and dependent on the phones power to be maintained; as a result, rather than wiping the data's index, like on a PC; the phone cycles the entire data pool on a master reset and actually rewrites everything in memory to zero.

However, if you have an SD card or Mico-SD card installed and the data was stored there, you have several options. You simply need an SD card reader or Micro-SD Card adapter to view the media and not the device as a drive, then you can do the usual deleted PC file recovery steps.

As an added note, I recommend to all my users for multiple reasons (including this one) that they always purchase and install an SD card on their smart phones. Not only will it make recovery easier, in many cases it makes the smart phone work more like a computer - having a physical drive and working memory. Without this media, the phone operates purely using RAM and as a result, your memory for applications will decrease as you install new programs and store more data.

    Hi

So you are saying that even if were to get my pc to read my phone as a drive and ran recovery software, it still wouldn't help?

    oh ****.

    Thanks for all your help!

Yep...If you do not have an SD card installed or maybe one of the very old smart phones, I'm afraid so. Only the firmware is hard written to the device.

There is no solution for this, phone data is stored in nvm memory, when you enter an reset code like *2767*3855# or *2767*2878# it will hard format the NVM and set it back to factory default.. so there is no way to get back your old info from the phone..

I'm sorry..

Hello, problem can be solved. First trying to restore back data when has been master reset ted, am sorry not possible to recover and restore any file back, except the files that came with the phone when been bought new.

Secondly, how to make your PC recognize your phone.

Things to have:

Data cable for connection and Samsung installation software (that comes with the phone when bought new).

Install the software and connect the cable after installation, i think your PC will recognize the phone now. You can try that out.

Take care.

Hi,here is a detailed solution on how to connect phone to the pc via usb, which allows your phone to be recognized as a drive,
1.Locate the mini-USB port on your phone. This is usually found on the left or right side of the phone, so look there before checking the top or bottom.
2.Use a standard size mini-USB to connect the phone to the computer. Plug the end of the small cord into the phone's mini-USB port and then plug the big end into a standard-size USB port on your computer.
3.Install drivers. Once your phone is connected physically, an software link must also be made. Your computer will not automatically recognize your phone, and a window will pop up asking if you want to install some drivers. Click the "yes" or "OK" button to continue.
4.A status window will pop up once your OS has found suitable drivers. Once the status window fills up, your computer will be ready to interact with your phone. The phone should now be charging. Check the phone screen to make sure.
5.Install any relevant software. Branded smartphones from Palm, BlackBerry, samsung and Motorolla all have specific software that comes bundled with the phones. Once the software is installed, you can launch it and interact further with your phone.
Thanks and take care

    Hi

Thanks for that. I have been able to do all that, but unfortunately the phone reads as seen above. It hasn't been issued a drive letter and can therefore not be picked up by data recovery programmes.

How can I change the way the pc reads the phone?

    Regards

    Chris

    Hi

Thaks for that. I have been able to install everything as descibed, but the phone doesn't read as a drive in that it hasn't been issued a drive letter. It does show as a seperate folder. Please see below.

Because it doesn't have a drive letter the data recovery programmes cannot read the phone. How can I allow the phone to be read as a drive?

    thanks

Dear Friend,
It is very hard to recover lost files. But still if those file are stored on memory card then you can take help of card reader while running data recovery software.... but to be frank, data recovery software does not guarantee 100% data recovery....

You're saying you tried all recovery programs. have you tried Samsung's RC Studio?
Your photos are not saved on the memory card? Because as far as i know, resetting the phone will not erase anything from the memory card (external memory) which normally contains your photos, videos and music.
You can actually take the external memory card out, and use a card reader to connect that to a computer.

    Hi

    Thanks for that.

I hadn't purchased a memory card yet, so all the info was stored on the internal memory.

I will try Samsung RC and see what happens.

Do you have any other suggestions if that doesn't work?

    Cheers

  • cv72 Jun 04, 2010

Did you mean Samsung PC Studio? Can't seem to find anything about RC Studio.

PC studio is already installed and working properly.

Oh, you don't have an external memory. Boy, that's a fatal decision.. to master reset without external backup. I'm not sure if you can recover those data but you can try this:

Try connecting your phone on a Mac (Apple computer) using your phone's USB cable. Coz, almost everything i plug in my Mac was recognize as a drive. If you don't know anybody who has a Mac, try going to Apple Store, they have sample units there, free to use, but be sure to ask somebody that you'll be trying it out with your phone. Make this as your excuse: "I just want to see my photos from your computer"

Again, I'm not sure if that will work, ok.

It's a desperate move, but at least you tried everything. It'll be better if you know someone who has a Mac.

Do a Samsung Master Reset:
CAUTION: A "master reset" changes the phone settings back to default. This process will erase all contacts, downloaded settings, and downloaded applications (ringtones, wallpapers, graphics, etc). This process cannot be undone.
Enter *2767*3855# from the standby screen. (You may need to remove the SIM before it will allow you to type the code in)

You can get the Master reset code from your service provider. Usually a defauly code like 1111 or 0000 but could be something else if it has not been manually change. If it is not default code then only the manufactuer may be able to unlock phone. Be advised with entering in a Master reset you are wiping out all the info on the phone including pics and numbers stored in phone.

Cant unlock my phone

If you know your original lock code, take it in to your service provider, each code is diffrent and can only be programed manually, if you dont know your original lock code you will have to sacrific all info pics, mess, numbers, etc. by a reset... I can guide you through the steps to erase all if you lost your Unlock code, or switch back to nam1 if you know your lock code, ( when you switch back, if security is on automatic lock, password is required) intial programing code is not your Unlock code.
