I hope you'll not be disappointed when i present you with photos/graphics Please take a look at this; the procedure on how to remove the fuser, troubleshooting brother mfc printer But if in case the fuser is closed and you are getting the error, open it and pull out the fuser and again reinstall it. Please check the paper jam also, even a small piece of paper can obstruct the movement of fuser.

Where/what is a fuse cover?

The Fuser is the heating element, it's in the back.
On that model I believe if you open up the rear cover (door) there will be another kind of cover/door possibly with a light green or blue icon showing a paper jam on a handle that lets you open it up to get access to the fuser.
Careful: It can get hot back there, also if there's a jam remove it from the back with both hands (to avoid tearing).
If it's telling you to close this when it's already closed try hitting it up with a can of air. Wait until the machine is completely cooled off first and then try to find where a plastic part from the fuser door goes into a small hole as that's going to be the sensor to detect if it's open or not: you'd want to try to blow out that part especially.

If you still have problems leave a comment and I'll upload some diagrams from the manual and try to help you further.

How do I close the fuser cover

Here is a link to Brother website with information on how to change the drum (fuser). If this is what you were doing, follow all the steps carefully. If not, follow the steps from 5 onwards.

Drum error message

To reset MFC-7840W drum count use the following steps.

1. open the front cover (leave open).
2. Press clear/back.
3. Then confirm the new drum install by pressing 1.
4. The display will indicate accepted.
5. Then close the front cover.

This should be done each time the drum unit is replaced.

I just started receiving some paper jam errors. When I opened the back cover I noticed there is a huge chunk taking out of an orange foam roller and orange foam bits are all over inside my brother printer....

Sounds like your fuser is toast. I would contact Brother and try to get it replaced on warranty if it still applies. If not, it's basically dead. Sorry.

Problem with our Brother mfc-7840w toner all over the page

since i finally figured this out I thought I would post this for anyone who has the
HL-4040 CN printer - or one similar
After seeing the hitting the buttons with the door open tricks for different models I tried anything that sounded like it had the same buttons my 4040 has... nothing on here worked so I just started hitting combinations of buttons with the door open - wow there are quite a few hidden menus there
For the toner life reset menu:
1 Open the front cover of the printer
2 press and hold the cancel button
3 press the reprint button while still holding cancel
- here is the reset menu - go to the appropriate cartridge on
- the menu and reset it and you're done!
FYI... Pressing the "Go" button and the up arrow gives you the parts life reset menu (drum, laser, fuser, etc.)
I also did the electric tape over the windows - which worked before the reset - but I thought this fact would be helpful too.
For anyone that is asking "what window?" I think it is the clear plastic opening on the sides of the cartridges where you can actually see the powder inside the cartridge - the color of the toner (magenta, yellow, or cyan). I didnt really know that for sure when I tried, but it made sense, and it worked. So I am fairly sure that is the "window" you should be trying to cover.
