Question about Samsung ML 1610 Laser Printer

3 Answers

After cleaning original Samsung toners in Samsung ML-1610 laser printer there are brighter stripes on printouts of a grey page (http://obrazki.elektroda.net/84_1275527530.gif ), as seen on the pictures: http://obrazki.elektroda.net/13_1275509057.jpg Another toner: http://obrazki.elektroda.net/88_1235310646.jpg After disassembling the toners it can be seen that that problem occurs on the developer roller, which applies toner on the photosensitive roller. The blade which limits the toner for some reason distributes the toner unevenly on the developer roller, despite cleaning the blade. In case of the last picture both the roller and the blade were cleaned with detergent, but still toner is unevenly spreading on the roller. Why? How to fix it?

The problem persists despite cleaning. The toner cartridge is new and original and has not been regenerated before, still contains some of the original toner powder.

    Any more ideas?

Any ideas what went wrong that after cleaning the cartridges, toner powder is distributed unevenly on developer roller?

    Thanks for all your assistance.
I found myself the cause eventually. Doctor blade was all cleaned and shiny, so I thought that it is perfectly cleaned, but under intense light I found on the edge where dr blade bends that the light is not reflecting from it in every place with the same intensity. After cleaning that edge (it is only 0.1 mm in width or even less) it is fine now.

It would seem to me that whatever is dispensing the ink is no longer doing it consistently and need cleaning or blockage in the line itself is causing a build up of pressure that than releases in erratic spurts checking both to ensure they are clean would be your first priority this link is detailed and brief about maintaining just about everything on your printer and should make things very easy on you before committing to any solution make sure you have a moment to address it as some words in the explanation may need an explanation of there own if you have absolutely no computer or mechanical lit

hope this helps

I appreciate you for providing all those pictures, it's very helpful for us to help you. If you've cleaned the roller, there might be some mistakes you've made, and i am afraid that you used detergent to clean the roller. In fact, we can even use hard/rough cloth, only soft cotton is recommended. I would say that you've gone too far, please don't take it otherwise when i say this. Also, there's another doubt, when you say that you've cleaned the blade (this should be kept lustre/shiny, otherwise will never be able to print), seems it would be difficult to let it work again. What about the sponge washers? did you wash them too? You have one more option to try before you get another toner cartridge if you haven't checked the drum. But i would not recommend this before you buy another toner cartridge and if the problem continues. It is also possible that the drum wasted ink tank is overflowing. If you know how to open it and fit it, follow the instructions below; Open the drum and remove some of the wasted toner powder, (don't remove all) and fit the screws and once again check it. Give it a try. I wish you good luck. Thank you for using FixYa.

Only in one toner cartridge I cleaned delicatelly the blade and the developer roller with detergent, in the other one I did not clean developer roller at all, and only removed the toner adhered to the blade using soft white toilet paper. So it seems that cleaning with detergent is not the problem, as in the other case despite not cleaning it with detergent the problem also appeared. In both cases distribution of toner on the developer roller is uneven.
Besides it wouldn't seem that developer roller would be prone to damages from such delicate cleaning. The drum surface is delicate due to the photoreactive covering, but not the developer roller IMHO.

"Also, there's another doubt, when you say that you've cleaned the blade (this should be kept lustre/shiny, otherwise will never be able to print), seems it would be difficult to let it work again."

Why would cleaning the blade make it difficult to let it work again? The residues of toner powder on the blade made printing uneven, that was the reason why I had to dismantle it and clean it. The strange thing is why after cleaning it is still unevenly distributed (although in somewhat different places than before the cleaning)

"What about the sponge washers? did you wash them too?"

I only removed any toner from them by gently knocking.

"It is also possible that the drum wasted ink tank is overflowing."

I removed the content of it during disassembling.

Have you never experienced such problems as I described before (I mean problems with dr blade and developer roller persisting after cleaning)?

Of course, we have faced many problems like this as yours. But they were easily fixed after replacing the cartridge and sometimes even the drum (I am afraid since the drum costs nearly 1/3 the price of most of the printers). And on refilled cartridges, the toner weight (toner grains) create this. We used to clean the cartridges and replace the toner and it really helps even if the print-outs are not as good as they were. In rare cases the fuser, when it can't give the proper/required heat to the toner sprayed on the paper. This is all what I can help you, furthermore I have no more tips for you.

Anyway, I once again wish you good luck

Yes, of course, replacing cartridge would help, but because the cartridge cost is almost the same as the printer I want to regenerate it. That's why I have two cartridges now, becuase I failed to regenerate the first one before, I had to buy another one, but I have the same problem with the second one, as I had with the first one, now.
I understand that such problems with stripes occur frequently before cleaning (that's often the reason cartridge needs cleaning), but does it happen often that the stripes continue to appear even after the cleaning?
I am quite certain that the problem is with the blade and / or developer roller, because after disassembling the cartridge I can see toner distributed unevenly on the roller in the same pattern as it appears on the printouts. So there is no problem with the drum, fuser or optics, it is some sort of problem with the balde or developer roller.

I have an Samsung ML-2851ND printer and it is printing grey patches vertically down the pages behind the text. What is causing this and how can it be resolved?

Hi,
Dots, Lines and smudges on the printouts are due to dirty/ deteriorating cartridge and cleaning the green drum of the cartridge may help temporarily. Open the front cover and take out the cartridge and gently clean the roller/ green drum with a dry, soft, lint-free cloth wiping off the toner dots marks/ lines.
Also, make sure that the visible inside of the printer is clean and ther is no spilled toner inside, which sometimes results in dots.
Try to rotate the drum to clean its whole face. You may have to repeat cleaning more than once.
Let me know if any further clarification/ assistance is required.

Hope it helps! Good Luck!

The problem may be the toner cartridge itself. You may need to get a new toner and clean the printer, again. Once the printer is clean re-place the new toner cartridge.

The print is faint. The lettering on the excel spreadsheet is Arial Regular 10, colour - automatic and normal font. However, the printed copy appears grey rather than black. Toner cartridge recently...

normally you go to printer settings and look for where it says page quality. make sure the page quality is set to normal or fine. this will make it black. if it is on a setting lower than this it will cause the printed document to appear grey.

cheers.
