How to restore to factory settings, hp desktop pavilion 1993

There are two ways to do this. 1st. Using the recovery partition already installed on your hard drive. 2nd. Creating recovery disc by launching the recovery disc creator. It is highly recommended that when purchasing a new computer a set of recovery discs be may as a factory back up in case your hard drive fails. You should make your recovery discs first. That will require at least 3 DVD blanks. Tell you what, you make the discs first and I'll explain how to use both methods. Click your start button and find a folder called maintenance. The location and name of the folder varies by each computer manufacture as to where they file the recovery disc creator program. I believe It's in the maintenance folder. Open it and there you should find the program. Simply run the program and follow instructions. computershack.leo@gmail.com Good Luck

Replaced motherboard &hard drive in hp pavilion, now it will not recognize reovery cd

By replacing the Hard drive you have removed the recovery partition with the operating system on it.
Did you make a backup of the Operating system to a set of CD's or just the Data?
If it was just the data you need a new operating system through HP Tech Support. The instructions are here

Replaced motherboard &hard drive in hp pavilion, now it will not recognize reovery cd

Replacing major hardware in a computer makes it a whole new computer. The motherboard is the operative part here that is causing your problem. When you replace a motherboard it becomes a new machine entirely. It won't recognize the recovery CD because it doesn't recognize your computer as the same machine it was loaded on. You will have to buy a new copy of windows to put on your computer.

I just purchased a Hp notebook dv2214us from an auction but everything was wiped clean off the hard drive due to California Law. I completed a self test off the Bios and everything passed. I just recently...

did you go into the bios and change the boot order to boot to the cd rom first? Then it should boot to the disc. Otherwise you may want to use any xp/vista disc do the install dont insert a cd key then once windows boots up then put the disc in and try a recovery.
Thanks,
Lee

Needs new hard drive. Which hard drives are compatable and can I install a new hard drive and then simply insert the recovery disc to install the original programs and go from there with the upgrades...

According to HP's specifications, your computer came with a 250GB SATA (serial ATA) hard drive. All drives have standard mounting dimensions, so any SATA drive would be compatible. HP has manuals here that give detailed steps on how to change the drive if you need help. It's a very simple process. Then yes, just put in your recovery disc and reload the original software. You'll then need to reinstall updates, any applications you put on, and so on.

Hope this gets you running again soon. Thanks for using Fixya!

Need a recovery disc for Pavilion dv-5 notebook

Hi:
You most likely have a bad hard drive, and a disk set is not going to help you, though you will need it too.
What you need is a new hard drive, a copy of all the drivers for your laptop, which you can download for free from HP. If HP won't send you a copy of the recovery disk, you can use any OEM copy of the same operating system that your laptop has a sticker for, but you won't have all of your programs.
