Install recoil spring on RYOBI08420

Requires the removal of the engine/starter cover so you can rewind the spring as you will need to get it back in place.

Once you make sure the spring isn't broken or badly bent and installed correctly, you will wind it up until it stops and back off one turn and install your pull rope.

If the spring is damaged then it is best to replace it as it will give problems.

How to replace starter rope on homelite 26b blower

The starter rope is buried in the bottom of the unit. So you have to split the upper and lower halves of the blower to get to the starter pulley. The rewind spring sits right beneath the rope pulley so you have to be careful not to pull out the spring or it will be next to impossible to put back in! I would suggest pulling a video from an online parts source or youtube for details.

Be safe and good luck!

How to release starter cord on sper & jackson 3200 vac

Take off the spring coil mechanism. It has either unwound or got caught. You need to take it out and rewind the spring so that it will pull the cord in.

The rope broke when I tried to start the chainsaw. How do I replace it?

Your rewind spring is now sprung. Remove recoil assy ( the part your rope slides into). Remove all old rope remnants and rewind the spring. Install new rope, tie it off and slowly release spring rewinding the rope.

I have a craftsman blower 358.797130 and the pull core broke .i have taken everything apart but can not get the pully off the seal o ring seems to be stoping it help the manual is no help

Yes, owner operator manuals cover very little in the way of repairs. If you have the unit taken apart down to the starter/recoil unit and you want to replace or rewind the rope on the pulley...it shouldn't have to be removed, unless the starter spring has broken. These units have a cheap starter system that wears easily and causes the problem you have. If you can, preload the spring (before installing the rope ) by turning it several times in the tension direction and then hold it in place and install the rope, Observe how the old rope is looped around the inner core of the starter if you install new rope.

Starter recoil spring reload, How?

If the spring is unwound.
Recoil Spring Rewind
I invert and secure the starter housing and rewind the spring large coil to small (need eye protection and both hands). I am right handed so I tension the spring enough to insert it inside the previous coil while holding what has already been installed with my left about 180° from my right hand. The tension will hold the spring in the housing once completely rewound. Then bend slightly the inner most part to engage the starter spool. It will require about 2 turns of pretension for it to retract properly.

If the starter cord needs a pretension, this works quite well.

Starter rope will not retract

Either you have a broken rewind spring, or the starter mechanism is dirty to the point where the force of the recoil spring is not sufficient to pull the rope back in.
WEAR SAFETY GLASSES while disassembling your starter mechanism to see what the problem is. Upon reassembly, it is a good idea to lube the post in the starter housing (the one the pulley slides over) with some graphite or teflon lube.

If your rope broke, there was no reason to take the spring out. The rope can be replaced just by taking the rewind housing off, turning pulley to get rest of old rope out, wind the pulley (and spring) the direction the rope would be pull it when starting. Then , when it's wound tight, back off to align the holes in pulley and cover. Hold it there, stick about an 8' piece of rope from the outside through the pulley and tie a knot. Hold the rope and let the spring pull the rope back into the starter. an tie handle back. Take your housing, and spring to a shop. They can re-install the spring and put on a rope a heck of a lot cheaper that buying that whole assembly.
