Hi.

If you suspect that you have a virus you can install a free antivirus like the following, then do a scan:

Avira.

AVG Free

Try also following the indications here: My computer is running too slow.

Check your computer hard disk space ..if it is full then you need to delete the unnecessary files..And also follow this steps:

My Computer >>> Right click on C: >>> Properties >>> Disk Cleanup (to remove useless files) ... Again from Properties >>> Tools >>> Check Now >>> Tick on ( Automatically fix file system errors & Scan for attempt recovery of bad sectors) >>> Start >>> The computer will schedule the scan to the next start up, so restart the computer ;) ..... After finishing the scan go again to C: >>> Properties >>> Tools >>> Defragment Now >>> a new window will appear , click on Defragment button ...

->Increasing the performance of the computer ... Right click on My Computer >>> Properties >>> Advance >>> ( Performance field) Setting >>> Here you can increase the performance by choosing (Adjust for best performance) and you can leave some visual effects if you like ( this step isn't harmful, but don't go to Advanced if you haven't experienced it)...

->You should use antivirus software ...to protect your computer from virus..

Running very slow

if your machine is a year old or older, and if you have not ran any maintenance types of programs on it, it's probably very slow because of the cache files alone. try opening up your browser, i assume internet explorer or firefox. in IE, go under options/tools or tools/options and find where it talks about clearing your internet browser history files and cache files. try clearing these out. the other thing you can try is a website called pcpitstop.com, go to the top right hand side of the page and click optomize your pc, free pc scan. this scan will take a while, but it will look at your entire computer and suggest things that you need to do. things like delete files, history, duplicates, etc will all show up. recommending suggestions to fix your problems, i always say do as the computer suggests you do. this is a free scan and free solution via there website, i use it all the time. your emachine should be fixed and much better for you after these steps. i hope this helps.

What info we need to help you better..
1.How much memory you have .
2.You've already stated the brand and model#
3.You've stated the program for your security program (kaspersky)
4.processor type speed.

Your computer may seem a bit slow but you are actually slowing it down by trying to use it while scanning.

*************************RECAPP***************************
1. YOUR COMPUTER SLOW BECAUSE = Kaspersky is working to scan, detect, and disable any thing thats harmful for you.

2. YOUR INTERNET IS SLOW(ER)= Once you connected to the web that added more for Kaspersky to check on,which it does the internet scan in real time, thats another 15% of your memory and resources loaded over.

*************************RECOMMENDATIONS***********************
1. LEAVE YOUR COMPUTER ON LONG ENOUGH TO COMPLETE THE SCANS IT NEED TO DO, ONCE ITS COMPLETE YOU'LL NOTICE YOUR COMPUTER WILL RESPOND FASTER.

2. I PERSONALLY USE (2) PROGRAMS THAT DONT USE TOO MUCH OF MY COMPUTERS' RESOURCES AND MEMORY AND THE ARE:****THREATFIRE (INTERNET, AND PORT SCANNER)********, *************MICROSFT SECURITY ESSENTIALS (VIRUS,MAL-WARE,TROJANS,ECT)********

***********************SOMETHING ELSE TO LOOK FOR****************************
LOOK AT THE BOTTOM RIGHT NEXT TO YOUR TIME...
HOW MANY ITEMS DO YOU HAVE DOWN THERE,
ALL THOSE ITEMS REQUIRE SOME MEMORY TO KEEP THERE , YOU'LL NEED TO FIND ONES THAT YOU DONT NEED ANDSTOP THEM FROM LOADING .

NEXT ONE IS (RIGHT) CLICK YOUR STAT BAR (OR TASK BAR ) THE FIRST THING TO DO IS UNCHECK --> LOCK THE TASK BAR

THEN (RIGHT) CLICK THE TASK BAR AGAIN HOVER OVER TOOLS,THEN UNCHECK ----> QUICK LAUNCH .............THIS WILL HELP TO SPEED YOU UP ON STARTUP(POWER ON) AND FREE SOME RESOURCES

***********************************NOTES***************************
THROUGH-OUT THIS INFO I REALLY PRAY THAT I DIDN'T CONFUSE YOU ANY MORE THAT YOU MAY ALREADY BE I'M ON ALL THE TIME IF I CAN HELP YOU ANY BETTER... , PLEASE RATE ME IF I'VE HELP YOU ANY

Computer slow downs are possible at all times. The only thing required is that the problem should be found and fixed at the right time.
You can scan your computer for errors here

My computer is extremely slow

1. Uninstall Unneeded Programs (Start, Settings, Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs) Keeps at least 10% of your HDD free, 20% is preferred. Windows uses this space for it's swapfile.
2. Scan Your Hard Disk for Errors. (Double-Click MY COMPUTER, Right Click C:, Properties, TOOLS TAB)
3. Scan for Viruses (If you don't have an updated and functional AV, http://free.grisoft.com)
4. Check for Spyware and Adware (http://www.download.com, Spybot search and destroy)
5. Defragment Your Hard Drive (Double-Click MY COMPUTER, Right Click C:, Properties, TOOLS TAB)
6. Adjust Visual Effects for Better Performance (Right-Click the MY Computer Icon, Properties, Advanced TAB)
7. Stop Programs from starting on Windows boot (Start, RUN, MSCONFIG)
