Cud be poor quality disks you are using, depends
macs are quite reliable so I cant blame the drive itself
toast isnt part of mac and there are reliablity issues from it.

I keep getting and eject disk type of error regarding a MATSHITA DVD-R UJ-85J Media which I do not know what it is. I don't think I've ever purchased such a program to begin with. How do I get rid of that...

The error in question is with your DVD ROM Drive. Go online to your manufacturers web site and download any updated firmware for that specific drive.

The burn to my Matshita DVD-R UJ-85j drive failed. The device failed to respond properly, unable to recover or retry.

The error message seems to implicate the drive rather than the media, but to save yourself an expensive repair that may be unnecessary, try burning a completely different brand of blank disc, preferably two. If it works, your drive doesn't work well with the original brand (it happens). Otherwise, a replacement optical drive is indicated.

DVDs recorded & finalised on LG DR175 unrecognized by MacBook Pro

you may find the necessary codecs are not installed on your MacBook.
www.freecodecs.com and see if you can get them there (divx,xvid,mpeg1,mpeg2 or a codec pack- or ffd-show)
also update the drivers for the dvd drive.

Can no longer burn cds on MacBook Pro (Model A1226)

Get a cheapy drive cleaner/laser cleaner. Looks like a normal CD/DVD, but has a brush on one side. Should be able to pick it up from an electronics store/supermarket. Pop it in, watch it go, then try again afterwards. I've detailed this further in a blog posting at <a href="http://www.garysmith.org.uk/blog/index.php/blog/show/Matshita-DVD-R-UJ-857E-problems---dirty-laser.html">http://www.garysmith.org.uk/blog/index.php/blog/show/Matshita-DVD-R-UJ-857E-problems---dirty-laser.html</a> - there's a few comments on there about it, pretty much all of them saying that it's worked for them. I guess with it being a slot loader it's perhaps a little more open to getting dust inside. Hope that helps.

Thanks,

My matshita uj-860s disc drive has stopped working

In my case, MATSHITA DVD-RAM UJ-860S did not want to write CD-R,-RW Verbatim using software NERO 8, but is easy to write their own software windows XP.
in the Log file was as follows:

Could not perform start of Disc-at-once

Sense Key: 0x05 (KEY_ILLEGAL_REQUEST)

Power calibration error

whether

Invalid field in parameter
E: MATSHITA DVD-RAM UJ-860S

ACTION! :)
Change in method of recording NERO 8 Burning mode: DAO (Disc-at-once) at Burning mode: TAO (Track-At-Once) all have established!
Simply drive MATSHITA was UNSUPPORTED software producers to write disks.
Updating the software to burn CDs, as is windows XP supports the recording and includes drivers for the drive! :)

Good luck!

Matshita uj-825s dvd ram - wont finalize dvd discs

update to the latest firmware/drivers, and the latest nero. It could be your drive or media. Try cleaning the lens with a comercial DVD lens cleaner or sometimes some compressed air will do the trick. Try also to write an image of the disk to the Hard drive. that could rule out any of the software... :-) And also try burning CD's. it might be that the DVD burning mechanism is screwed. Close as many programs as you can before burning, it might be a memory problem. And finaly check your DMA setting - http://home.comcast.net/~bbmayo/checking%20DMA.pdf Good luck
