I had the points set at 18 . Then i looked at the position of the magnets on the fly wheel . I noticed they looked like they went a little to far when the points were opening. so I gap the points at 20 instead of 18 .I now have spark.

Make sure the flywheel key is a new one. use .020 brass or non metalic shim stock to space the coil away from the flywheel, set the points to be about .016 - .018 when fully open and make sure the ground wire on the coil is not grounded to anything.

My 1991 chevy s10 2.5l want crank it's getting red spark

Hi Austin:

Counting on my fingers I make that over 25 years old, so the maintenance history and mileage become very relevant.
I'd be considering an ignition tune-up as an appropriate first step.
Changing spark plugs, plug lead harness (wires), rotor, cap, coil, Points & condenser (or solid state components.
Chances are it will show a remarkable improvement.

If you have changed sparkplug and coil and cleaned flywheel, you probably have a kill wire problem. Disconnect kill wire from coil and try again.

8HP Tecumseh with no spark

Check the gap between the coil and the flywheel. You can fold a dollar bill over a few times (3 or 4 layers thick) , place it against the flywheel , **** the coil up to it , and then tighten down the coil. This will give you a good clearance between the coil and flywheel and promote good spark.

Essentially I am suggesting you use the folded dollar bill to set the coil to flywheel distance/gap.

If it still doesn't work, I am at a loss. Is this a multi cylinder engine ? If so , does it have points or electronic ignition ?

Have replaced point condenser spark plug rebuilt carburator and My troy buit tiller Model HH60 105113h won<t start no spark

Hi and welcome to FixYa, I am Kelly
The HH60 is the engine model number and 105113H is the specification number. (Good thing for the purpose of this post.) It is a 6 Hp Tecumseh.

The service manual for your engine is here:
http://www.mymowerparts.com/pdf/Tecumseh_Service_and_Repair_Manuals/TECUMSEH_SERVICE%20_REPAIR_MANUAL_3HP_TO_11HP_4-CYCLE_L-HEAD_FLAT_HEAD_ENGINES_692509.pdf

See page 71 for troubleshooting / testing the ignition system

There is a kill wire that is attacted to a terminal of the throttle control plate that can NOT be grounded or it woill ground the ignition. That same lead can NOT have any grounds all the way to the ignition coil. (This is called a parasitic load) Most of the time when a new condensor is installed the problem is where the wires attach to the condensor. (Chassis ground)

Coil to Flywheel air gap is 0.0125 measured at the magnets to the coil.

The wire that connects to the stop start switch will also ground the ignition.

Thanks for choosing FixYa,
Kelly

Tecumseh engine has no spark. spark plug has been replaced

iF IT IS EQUIPPED WITH A CDI (CAPACITOR DISCHARGE IGNITION) IT IS PROBABLY BURNT OUT AND MUST BE REPLACED. IF IT HAS A COIL, TRY CLEANING THE MAGNITO AND COIL WITH EMERY CLOTH THEN REGAP IT.

No spark checked points they have spark how do I check coil assy. or change wire to spark plug a OEM ignition coil is spendy

If the points are working correctly you are having a problem with the condenser ,coils, spark plugs,or spark plug caps. Honda condensers are notorious for being week. Spark plug caps have resisters that burn out or corrode. Coils can go bad but do not usually go out in pairs. Plug wires can short out the spark if the are old and cracked or wet. One coil does two plugs so on shorting wire on each coil will kill all the spark. You can see this if the bike is running at night where it is dark. Aftermarket Accel coils($150-$200) might be a good option along with an after market CDI ignition (may still be available through Parts Unlimited about $200). I suspect that your problem is still the points. Power is going to them but not leaving them. Even new points may have to be reinstalled several times before they decide not to short to ground.

I have a briggs and stratton motor off a ride on. 12 Hp I/C Quiet model 281707 type 0148-01 with no spark. I've cleaned the flywheel, the coil and bought a new plug. Any thoughts?

Make sure that there is .010-.012 clearance between the flywheel and the coil . As this is a engine that has electronic ignition you do not have to worry about points and condenser. Also check to make sure that the ground wire from the ignition switch to the coil is not shorted out on the frame anywhere. And make sure
