Question about Verbatim SmartDisk Firelite Portable USB 2.0 250GB GO 5400 rpm/tpm 250 GB Hard Drive

1 Answer

Firelite 49 GB is no longer recognized by my PS3

I have a smartdisk firelite 49 GB portable hard drive, and when I first got it, it worked with my PS3 and my laptop. I formatted it one day, and now it won't work on my PS3, it still works with my laptop however. When I plug it into my PS3 nothing happens, my PS3 doesn't even recognize it's plugged in. Why is it doing this, and please advise me as to how I can fix this problem. Thanks for any help you may be able to offer me. Brandice

it's cause when you formatted the disk, you choose to use ntfs file system and ps3 can only read fat32.
when you format a hard disk or eaven a usb drive you can choose wich fort to use.
there are different tipe, most common are fat, fat32, and ntfs.
most actula operating system uses ntfs, but fat32 is still he more compatible.
reformat your hard drive as follow:
got to "my computer" on your desktop, right click on your hard drive and choose format.
a window should pop up.
under file system chose fat32.
leave untouched all other fields.
you could perform a quick format, but i suggest a full complete format, so leave all untouched and wait till end.
now it should work.

that sound stratnge, are you sure you checked under the file system option? if so i suggest a low level format... it takes a long time but it should work:

    go to:

    and download the software...

connect the disk and start the program in this order.

chose the right disk in de first screen,

    go forwrd to next step.

in this screen you see 3 tabs on the top, choose low level format and click on format this device.

the process wil take a long time but after that your disk will be like just come out of the factory.

when finished, unplug the disk and plog it back.

go to controll pannel--->administration tool--->system managment.

right click on my computer---> manage

open it, a windows should pop up.

before the last entry there is disk managemnt.

    selct it

here you can see your active disks and cd room.

on the left side are listed all the phisical disks, disk 0 should be you internal hard drive and disk 1 your usb drive.

be sure to choose the correct hard drive, under the disk number ther should be removable device!

right click on the device, and select format.

a popup shuld apear saying that this is atcive partition on the disk... say ok.

select preferd volume label as you wish, for example ps3 hdd.

    fyle system, fat32

leave untouched other fields and go on.

if format fails, don't worry.... do it again.

    hope this help!

My Macbook no longer recognizes my Firelite Hard Drive

It could be incorrectly formatted, if so you can reformat by using another computer that recognizes it or you may be able to find it on your laptop through a formatting tool. The formatting tool built into OSX is called "disk utility".

MY Apple computer all of a sudden is not recognizing my 160GB Firelite. It has power but when plugged in the icon won't appear on the desktop and I can't access the drive? Was working earlier in the day.

Try going to utilities in the applications folder, in utilities select disk utility and see if the drive shows up, if so select repair disk after selecting the SmartDisk. If not showing select your hard drive and run repair permissions and see if it helps. Failing this you need a 3rd party disk repair solution like DiskWarrior. The information is still there!
