The clutch has a left handed thread; tighten it to loosen it. This may be helpful.

How to get the clutch off on a 142 husky

  1. Turn off the saw and release the chain brake. The chain brake is the plastic handle located on the topside of the saw's body, and is between the bar and the throttle. With a gloved hand, spin the chain to ensure the brake is off.
  2. Use the wrench to loosen the bar nuts until they are finger tight. Use the flathead screwdriver to loosen the bar tensioner screw. This screw is located in between the bar cover's two metal posts, and can be reached through the small, round hole in the cover's center.
  3. Finish loosening the bar nuts and remove the bar cover. Take off the bar and chain; set them aside in a safe place.
  4. Unplug the spark plug from the rubber spark plug connector, located on the top of the saw's body. Push some of the chainsaw's starter chord string into the spark plug cylinder to block the piston from moving while taking apart the clutch.
  5. Remove the clutch assembly with the clutch socket wrench. Husqvarna chainsaw clutches are left-locking nuts, so you will need to turn the bolt clockwise to loosen it. Tap on the socket's handle with a hammer if the bolt won't loosen.
  6. Remove the bolt and pull off the clutch cover, clutch spring and clutch drum. Replace these parts if they are chipped, warped or heavily worn.
  7. Follow these steps in reverse order to reassemble the clutch.

How to remove chainsaw clutch

hi
remove statrer cover assy
remove plug, rotate engine until piston @ bdc - insert a thick 6 mm nylon starter rope through plug hole and rotate piston so that it pushes rope in between piston and cylinder top this locks the crankshaft

its called a soft stop

take a punch and hammer and give the clutch 1 or 2 hits in and clockwise direction clutch should loosen

to refit clutch , remove soft stop and rotate engine counter clockwise fit the stop and jamb it again between piston and cyl head then spin on the clutch ( threads are left hand ) use punch and give 1 or 2 hits to tighten again - remove soft stop and refit plug and starter cover assy
clutch should tighten further when engine runs

cheers paul

hope it helps

I need to change the clutch drum

Don't know about your particualr saw, but general instructions are : take the bar cover off, take the bar and chain off, put your piston stop in, remove the clutch nut by unscrewing it clockwise, remove the shoes and springs from inside the drum, and pouit them in the new one, replace it all. If you don't have a piston stop you can pull the starter cord all the way out and stuff some of it into the spark plug hole to stop the piston moving when you turn the clutch nut.

I have a Husqvarna 445 chain saw and it does not get enough oil to the bar and chain. I have to stop saw after about 10 minutes of cutting because it freezes the chain so I remove bar and chain clean out...

Your Manual nor IPL mention an oiler adjustment..
445 IPL (may not be your saw)
Is this the original bar? A longer bar requires more oil and your saw is not equipped to supply it.

We are seeing many of these does not oil/oils to much problems with these no adjustment models. I recommend you contact Husqvarna, there may be an unannounced recall/repair. If they aren't willing to help you consider contacting your Atourney General and the BBB.

It has an outboard clutch, the oil pump is behind it. If you attempt a repair this will be helpful.

  1. Check the IPL for your saw to see if any special tools are needed.
  2. There are metal piston stops available, when square (almost never) with the piston top these work well, if not square they have been known to punch through the piston. I suggest a length of starter cord or nylon rope be used instead of the piston stop (retain 6" ± so you can remove it). Make sure the piston is near the top of the cylinder before feeding the cord or it can fall through the exhaust port and damage the piston as it rises.
  3. Everyone I’ve ever removed had a left handed thread (tighten it to loosen it).

Chain sprocket worn out

Outboard drums (drums on the outside of the clutch) are held on by a nut or e-clip.

Inboard drums are held on by the clutch which is threaded onto the crankshaft. And there is the challange.
***NOTE all chain saw clutches have LEFT hand threads, so, rightey loosey, lefty tightey. (just backwards from everything else)

*** NOTE #2: DO NOT USE AN IMPACT GUN
this will most certainly shear the flywheel key or damage the flywheel !!!!! (after 35 years, you can ask me how I know that, LOL)

1) Use a piston stop to hold piston from moving: THIS IS A MUST !!!
Ok, so you do not have one, let's make one.
a) remove the spark plug
b) insert a piece of recoil rope into the cylinder hole, leaving a tail to remove it by. (rope, large shoe string, anything that is soft, that is aprox 1/4 to 5/16 in diameter to place into the spark plug hole to help the piston to stop it's travel by filling up the empty space. Just make sure you can remove it later)
c) secure the saw (extra set of hands may be needed) and with a suitable wrench on the clutch center, rotate the clutch to the right until piston comes to a stop. With a hammer, tap the wrench to aid in rotation. This can be very difficult, and may take several taps.
d) after removed, inspect and grease the drum bearing before re-assemlby.
e) upon re-assembly of clutch, tighten by hand only, NO hammer required. The force of the chain will tighten the clutch.
f) remove the rope, and re-install the spark plug.

How does one take off the old drum clutch on a chain saw?

A 2375 has an outboard clutch and the film is a good guide. Let me add:
  3. It is probably a left handed thread (tighten it to loosen it).

Can't get clutch plate off of makita 340 dcs

you need a piston stop to stop the engine from rotating, then with a clutch tool you can spin off the clutch, most of them are left had thread.if you don't have a clutch tool you can use a hammer and punch on one of the main arms of the clutch itself.for a piston stop you can use a piece of 1/4"rope.put the piston at the bottom of the stroke and stuff the rope in the sparkplug hole, this stops the piston from reaching it's full stroke.
