Question about Hotpoint Aquarius WD640 Front Load Washer/Dryer
Ok, it may be best not to use that machine until you have upgraded it to its proper breaker. From what you said, the lights in the house experience a voltage drop when the machine is on. This can only mean one thing, they are on the same breaker. The breaker will have 4 inputs, where to two outer ones will provide the 240 volts needed by your machine. If you have a multimeter or voltmeter, check the outlets for the 240v range for the washer, and 120v for the outlets in the vacinity and any other rooms where the lights may dim. the possibility still reamins that the house is just old and the wiring is bad. then that would be a rather expensive fix. Idealy you want your washer and dryer on a breaker together, but seperate from everything else. A high quality breaker goes for $20, cheap ones are $8. Also, when touching the breaker, make sure it is flipped to the off possition, i have personaly felt the grasp of those connectors many times and believe me, it will wake you up.
