Question about Canon PIXMA MP830 All-In-One InkJet Printer

2 Answers

Every page that prints on my Canon MP830 now has a 1/4" black vertical stripe on the BACK 3 1/2" from the left edge. I have tried cleaning, deep cleaning, roller cleaning and bottom plate cleaning as well as removing the ink cartridges and the printhead and cleaning the printhead and the printer very thoroughly. As soon as I reassemble and print 1 sheet the stripe is back. I contacted Canon customer support and they suggested taking it in to an authorized repair station. I use only genuine Canon cartridges and have replaced the Black 5 (large black) and the Black 8 (small black) numerous times but nothing seems to help. I was wondering if the printhead has failed and now allows one of the Black cartridges to leak onto the bottom plate, etc. Please advise.

Unfortunately I own a lot of the ink cartridges for this printer so replacing it is not as economical as it would seem. Would replacing the printhead be a solution?

First thing to do is to run a Print Head Cleaning using the Canon Maintenance tab under the properties of you Canon printer located in Printers and Faxes.

Next would be to remove the ink cartridges and then remove the print head and clean it manually. You can try any of these methods: http://www.maxpatchink.com/canon-tips.shtml

If that all fails then you'll need to call Canon and order a replacement print head, or buy a replacement printer.

Hello. I believe you have identified the problem. There must be a leak. It can hardly be due to a roller since the stripe would then be on the front and not the back of the sheet. The difficulty with Canon is that they protect their service manuals like gold. I have tried to obtain one for years with no success. That said, spending serious dollars on a repair for a printer that is out of warranty is hard to justify these days since they practically give away the new ones.

Problem is I have about $600 in ink cartridges that will not fit any newer Canon printers, making a simple replacement very expensive. Do you think replacing the printhead would solve the problem or can it be leaking somewhere else? Is it possible that hair, or dust or tiny paper fragments that I have not been able to see are causing wicking from the cartridges or printhead? Or is it just the printhead has failed and causes the cartridge to release ink in large quantities whenver there is printing? Incidently, the first print after a period of no printing has the most solid black stripe which diminishes with eachg print (but never goes away), only to come back full force after a period of non-use (ninutes, not hours).

Have just placed new toner cartridge., prints have black stripes

Try cleaning the charger wire on top of the toner/drum unit. It should have a green plastic knob/handle to slide the cleaner left to right and back. Do this several times.

HP Laserjet P1006 prints with blank white stripe down left side

Clean the Corona Wire carefully to remove any residue. As the charge on the wire is effectivley masked it cannot deposit any toner to the page and will result in a consistent white vertical stripe.

IP90 WONT PRINT BLACK

I had this problem recently with my IP90. Both the black and color heads were clogged. After running the "canned" routines several times to clean the heads and deep clean the heads...still didn't help...here's what I did:

1. open the top lid to have the cartridges that are inserted in the print head move to the middle of the printer.
2. remove both cartridges
3. What is left there is the print head holder. Slightly move it to the right and gently lift the print head lock.
4. Grasp the print head and lift it out of the tank.
5. Have several paper towels hand and know that you will have color and bw ink on your fingers
6. Put the print head on the paper towel
7. Pour rubbing alcohol on the blk and color heads and let them sit of about 10-15 minutes.
8. after that dry the heads and re-insert them in the printer
9. I put new cartridges in the printer and ran clean and deep clean a few times.
10. My color and black and white print came right back!

Hope this helps.

Stripes on Images only - Text OK

Perhaps the CMY color heads need alignment. If you have not already done so, run a head alignment from the driver maintenance section. It will print out a page containing several lines and text, and request you select the closest-aligned images. After this is done, do another image print to check for improvements.
Normally, the printer uses the black cartridge for text and the CMY inks for images (even for black on photo and specialty paper). So when you are printing normal text pages on plain paper, only the black ink is used. A good check for this would be to print a normal text page, but select photo paper in the driver to trick the printer into using the CMY inks to make a substitute black text page. If this looks ok, then you are having issues other than cartridge alignment.
