Question about Toshiba RD-XS34 DVD Player/HDD Recorder
You made 2 mistakes:
1 - HDD - Hard Disk Drive = the hard disk that is inside your player, you have to record to it from your dvd only unit before playing something of it.
2 - there is no blue-ray DVD. It's either a BR-disk = BluRay -disk or a DVD, no mixup possible
To put it simply your DVD player can't play BR disks, it doesn't have the laser to read and the software to decode them so it will simply recognize them as damaged.
It's an old model that is even incapable of upscaling - a process by which SD (Standard Definition) signal from the DVD is converted by the player to HD (High Definition).
If you want to view a BR-disk you will gonna have to buy a new player, this time a BR player, not a DVD player.
