Hello,

Make sure the printer is on. Hold down the power button while simultaneously pressing the cancel button to select the desired level of cleaning.
Select the cancel button once for the first cleaning level. Press the cancel button twice and then the resume button for the second cleaning level. Press the cancel button three times and then the resume button for the third cleaning level.
Remove your finger from the printer's power button. The printer will perform the self-cleaning process, then print a configuration page. Inspect the page to ensure the print quality issues have been resolved.
Manual CleaningTurn the printer on. Wait for a few seconds until the printer cartridge carriage begins to move to the center of the printer, then unplug the power cord.
Open the printer's access door and remove the print heads.
Clean the contact points of the print head with a microfiber cloth, making sure to completely remove any ink buildup. Do not wipe the nozzles on the underside of the print head.
Wet a cotton swab with distilled water and gently clean the rest of the ink residue from the print head's contact points. Do not touch the nozzles on the underside of the print head. Put the print head aside and wet a clean cotton swab down with distilled water.
Clean the print head contact points inside the printer, making sure to remove all ink buildup. Wait 15 minutes for the cleaned areas to completely dry. Reinsert the print heads and close the printer's access door. Plug the power cord back into the wall. If print head error continue, purchase a replacement print head.

Take care.

Please let me know whether you are using a new Cartridge or old Cartridge so that i can help you better. Before you proceed, you need to clean the printer. It is also important to reset. I'll assist you further on how to fix this. Awaiting your response.

Well, sorry, i thought at least you might know what is cartridge, any way it's not a definition, it's the name of the small unit which makes the prints. We can buy and replace them after it is stops working.
You can refer to the pictures from the link below..:
Click here Canon Cartridges to view,

    Here also Cannon cartridges......

If you had just replaced them, then the problem should be related to the printer or if not, you'll first need to replace them.
Do let me know if you still have problem.

    Thank you for using FixYa.

Sorry, i thought this question has been solved by another expert, anyway let's give it another try.
If you haven't cleaned all the Contact points, please do so (maybe on the printer or on the printer). You can use pencil eraser (rubber) to clean them. Make sure no ink or dust stuck. After this, follow the next steps but before you start, switch off the printer and disconnect everything including the cartridges and the cables from the printer. You'll also need to switch off the adaptor to let it cooled, use only Power button to switch off or t o Power on the printer.
    Follow the steps below;

    Press Additional Functions key
    Press #
Press > to #7 Printer Function
    Press Set
Press > to #4 Printer Reset
    Press Set
    Press <
    Unplug printer and repower it.

Do let me know after this.
    Good luck.

sounds like the print head contacts are getting loose or are dirty, try cleaning the contact pads, re-seat the unit and try again, to do this gently rub the contacts with a white eraser works good for this job. if this helps you, please provide some thumbs up. cheers.

Hi,
It means the print head temperature is too high. The only was to resolve this error is either replace the print head or replace the logic board. The print head is available, part number QY6-0061 but you will struggle to find a logic board. The only other thing you can try is resetting the EEPROM on the logic board, this sometimes clears the error. A service manual will show you how to do this: http://www.tradebit.com/filedetail.php/4546483-canon-pixma-mp830-printer-service-manual

REPLACED PRINT CARTRIDGE NOW STATES THE TYPE OF PRINT HEAD IS INCORRECT.

Canon support suggests that perhaps your print head needs to be reseated. This would be too complicated to explain, plus the documentation at Canon support has pictures to help you perform this task.

You must be willing to use the "Search" feature in order to view this solution. Type in the question:
"The type of print head is incorrect" > Click <Search>

Hi
I think you need to check if the inkjet (print head/ Cartouch) is installed ok on the printer.
& Make sure it is the type supported by your printer.
I hope this was your problem.

Error: The type of Printhead is incorrect, Install the correct printhead.

Ok i know this is kinda old, but i found a solution.

First to those people to state I found a solution from hp, cannon etc etc and not give out the direct link, or instructions, then whats the point fing posting????

This error happens when you install an oem cartridge onto your system. Or havent used it in a while, so the machine is somehow misfigured.

This solution is for canon mp800, simply switch off printer. HOLD stop/reset and press and HOLD on/off button. release stop/reset. Now press stop.reset twice. then release on/off button, press stop/reset 4 times, wait 20 seconds, press on/off button twice.

switch machine back on and the printer should find the cartridges.

This method maybe the same for your mp*** if not google RESET CANON PRINTER MP*** and you'll find the correct buttons to press.

here's a printer on reseting a bunch of canon printers http://tricks-collections.com/reset-printer-canon-mp140-mp160-mp180-mp210-mp220-mp460-mp470-mp500-mp510-mp530-mp600-mp610-mp800-mp820-mp810-mp830-mp960-mp970/

good luck.. and FU canon for adding you scamming chips into cartridges.

Print head

I encounter exact same problem. What I did was took out the print head and clean the print head with Qtips with alcohol. To locate and remove print head, follow the instruction at Canon's PIXMA MP830 website and choose the tab "Support & Service" type "rseating the Print Head"
You'll be seeing
http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelInfoAct&fcategoryid=123&modelid=12804#SupportDetailAct

Basically, printer head is inner carton where ink cartridges sit.
Above link shows pricicely how to remove the ink cartridge.

Above link's instruction says, Caution: do not touch print head nozzles<1>

But, I just went ahead and clean the print head nozzles with rubbing alcohol soaked Qtips.
After completely cleaned and dried, I reinstalled print head, reinstalled ink cartridges,
closed all the cover. It went back working perfectly.
