Question about Microsoft Computers & Internet

Windows has no sound

Tried playing a DVD and mp3 file through ZP, MPC, VLC, WMP, iTunes, Winamp, and QT and there is no sound. All applications also have no sound. Streaming in browsers however, have sound. Such as Youtube and Last.fm. I think I remember having sound before fiddling with gpedit.msc and altering some registry keys for full administrator access.

How to play FLAC on my Windows PC?

Well, if you're willing to install one thing, you can use the VLC media player found here: http://www.videolan.org/vlc/index.html

VLC also releases applications for Android and IOS, and nativly supports almost all media file formats. This solution would enable you to use the file in its original format on your computer and not worry about conversion issues.

Windows media player will not play DVD,s because of a number of queued files .

The easiest solution is to download VLC Player. It is free and located at:

http://www.videolan.org/vlc/index.html

Do NOT download from the myriad of other 'download' places that appear in Google ads if you use that instead of the link I provided.

VLC (Video LAN player) plays just about everything in the world and is a lot easier to use than what Windows provides.

Windows Media Player will try to delete your files if you try to remove the queued files.

I have a Realtek audio chip on an Asus motherboard and a set of 5.1 speakers installed on my pc. I have set up my sound settings at 7.1 in order to play all speakers. They all heard when I check them...

If your motherboard audio chip supports 7.1 audio then it should support 5.1 too. If so then go for 5.1 since choosing 7.1 and using a 5.1 system will result in loss of audio as you are missing two channels (6 channels on 5.1 and 8 channels on 7.1). The 5.1/7.1 option through the sound settings should emulate surround audio through almost all players. For VLC, try the following:
  1. Go to [Preferences]--->Check [Advanced Options]
  2. Then expand [Audio] and select [Output Modules]
  3. Change [Audio Output Module] to [Win32 WaveOut]
  4. Click save and restart VLC
Hope that helps. If not try Media Player Classic instead of VLC. It supports 7.1 and other surround audio by default.

Lg cd/dvd rw will not play or record. but will play mp-3

It should "play" commercially-produced audio CD disks.
With the correct software (PowerDVD, et cetera) it should "play" commercially-produced audio/video DVD disks.
It seems to be reading "data" disks (MP3 files are just "data" files), and passing them to your software (Windows Media Player, iTunes, WinAmp) for decoding and playing.

You need software (Nero, or AShampoo Burning, or ...) to be able to "burn" CD and DVD disks.

When i try to explore its asking to choose the application from a list

I do not know what you mean by EXPLORE, but anytime XP asks to choose an application, is because the file you clicked on does not have a program installed to run it, or you have not defined a preferred program to run it. For example, if you click on a file that has an MP3 extension, and you happen to have WMP, Winamp an Itunes, XP will ask how to run the music file, unless you have stated previously your preferred choice.

I can listen to mp3 files,they won't run

Try checking your sound settings. It's not a codec problem, since VLC doesn't need codecs. If it really doesn't play, make sure the mp3 file is working, and not corrupt.

Cannot upload or play dvd with error report

Reinstall your windows player then you need to install the codecs to be able to read other formats here's one of the most complete packs of codecs. if you have doubts try this, install VLC player if the movies work on that player then your problem with the WMP will be the codecs. Make sure you install the full version.

VIDEO FILES OF CANON SX10 IS NOT PLAYING IN WMP

H264 is a "mov." file. Windows media player11 and Power DVD 9 do not support this type of file. If you don't like QuickTime, there are many free media players that will support it (VLC is a good one). You could convert the mov. file to an avi. file with a video converter program. Then your avi. format movie will play in WMP

Audio CD s fine. DVDs picture only.

Hi Sir,
The problem is with the codec that is require to play sound. You can resolve this by playing your DVD in another player like VLC media player or you will have to install the latest codec pack which supports major Audio and Video formats.

Following are the links to download both the VLC media player and K-Lite mega codec pack-
Download any one of them and install on your system.I am pretty sure this will resolve your problem.
