Turn power off... turn power on, right after turn on, keep tapping F8 till a boot screen shows up. then select safe mode.
after you boot up into windows, change the setting.
if it won't let you then you need to go into device manager and uninstall the display adapter. then restart computer.
the display adapter should auto install itself to default 800x600 or 1024x768.

You didn't say which OS you're running. However, it looks like you need to restart your computer in safe mode. This URL explains how to get in safe mode. When the computer boots the video it will look a bit grainy and you won't be able to see the entire desktop without using the scroll bars.

Both XP and Vista don't allow you to perform such an operation through the regular procedure and, as a result, you will only be able to get a screen resolution of 800×600 with the consequence that some icons and programs won't be displayed correctly. This is because Safe Mode just loads only basic services and drivers which are strictly necessary for Windows to run.

Fortunately, by employing the following techniques, you can get around this restriction permitting you to get whatever screen resolution you want.

Windows XP:
  1. Right click on your desktop.
  2. Click Properties.
  3. Click the Settings tab.
  4. Under Screen Resolution, drag the pointer to the right (where higher resolutions are located).
  5. Click Advanced.
  6. On the new window click OK, without modifying anything.
  7. Done, you should have successfully changed the resolution settings.
Windows Vista:
  1. Right click on your desktop.
  2. Click Personalize.
  3. Click Display Settings.
  4. Under Resolution, drag the pointer to the right (where higher resolutions are located).
  5. Click Advanced Settings.
  6. On the new window click OK, without modifying anything.
  7. Done, you should have successfully change the resolution settings.

I have lcd monitor and this is 15 inches i think,. pls help me for my apearance resolution tnx

You can access the resolution settings from Windows XP by right clicking on the desktop and choosing properties from the menu that pops up. Then go to the Settings tab and there is a slider that lets you adjust the resolution. In Windows Vista and Windows 7 you access it by right clicking on the desktop and clicking on Screen Resolution. The resolution is the second box from the top. Click on the arrow down on the box and you will see the slider to change the resolution.

I bought a new desktop to use with my old screen. Now for some reason the image is a little wider than the screen. Vertically everything is OK. This happens both under Windows and Linux.

Probably the new pc was setup to use a wide screen monitor, which you did not buy.
You need to adjust the resolution to match your existing monitor.
Win XP -right click on the desktop and choose properties (or Graphis Properties. same for Vista or 7). Then choose settings. This will allow to choose your res. Try 1024 X 1260 first. Click apply..
If anything goes wrong, just wait 15 seconds and it will return back automatically. You have to click "accept" to save the change. Don't know about Linux.

I adjusted resolution on my HP notebook now when I turn on cant see screen. Please help

Hi Jess,

Boot the computer in SAFE MODE by Restarting the computer, and the moment its on keep tapping the F8 key untill you see a screen saying "Windows Advanced option...".

1. Select Safe Mode using the keyboard arrow key and hit enter.
2. This will load all basic drivers to start safe mode operation.
3. Go to Display Properties (WindowsXP) or Display Settings (Windows Vista) by right click on empty blank space on Desktop, then select Properties(Windows XP) or Personalize(Windows Vista).
4. Then change the resolution by sliding the Low to High slider bar. Do not press "OK" or "Apply" at this time.
5. Instead, click on Advanced Settings, and then click OK. Windows in Safe Mode will change the screen resolution according to new settings, and prompt a "Monitor Settings" dialog box prompting that desktop has been reconfigured, with countdown timer. Click on Yes to keep the new settings.
6. Alternatively, simply click on Advanced, go to Adapter tab, then click on List All Mode. Select a mode with screen resolution size and color mode that you prefer, and click on OK. Windows will apply the new resolution size and color quality on Safe Mode too.

Riztech

I switch my monitor from a 17 inch to 26 inch but on the new monitor its still at the 17 inch instead of the 26 inch

Change your video resolution to match the new monitor. Right click in a blank area on your desktop go to properties and change your resolution (in XP). In Vista or Windows 7, after right clicking on your desktop, choose Screen Resolution (about the 3rd one up from the bottom of choices).

Cant use my rad 5 with a desktop Dell computer with Vista

Temporarily connect another monitor to your computer.

Set the screen-resolution to 800 by 600 at 60 Hertz.

Disconnect the other monitor, and connect your RAD.

It should display.

Try changing the screen-resolution to 1024 by 768, and "test" it.

I have a new wireless mouse with usb plug in and it has changed my screen. It has stretched it out and is distorted. How can I go back to what I had?

Hi, What you could do is do a system restore.

In Windows XP go to Start, All Programs, Accessories, System Tools, and then System Restore.

With Windows Vista go to the vista start button4f6cbd09-148c-4dd8-b1f2-48f232a2fd33.png and search for System Restore in the search box.

If that does not work then the wireless USB mouse has changed your screen resolution.

Windows XP: Right click on your desktop, go to Properties, then go to the settings tab and change your screen resolution.

Vista: Click the vista start button4f6cbd09-148c-4dd8-b1f2-48f232a2fd33.png then go to Control Panel. Then click Appearance and Personalization, then click Display Settings. Under Resolution, move the slider to the resolution you want, and then click Apply.

I really hope this helped and please do let me know if it has sorted your problem.

It could be that the screen is at the correct resolution, but the icons are just set to display larger (Vista allows this). Right-click on the desktop (NOT over any icons), and select "View". there you can select the size of the desktop icons.
