It honestly depends on the model of the laptop. Try looking around in your Start Menu for Toshiba applications. Have you tried MSN/Windows Live yet to see if it can access the camera?

Still cannot play LAN games, used to can't now. I've checked everything I know (didn't take long) I've had a response suggesting a system restore, but that isn't going to help as I cannot point to the...

Did you get a new router or connection to the internet? The LAN games must see your ip address to communicate with you. If yours router or firewall is hiding the ip address, or if they're seeing an address starting with 192.168 or 10.10., that's the wrong ip address.

Some a/v software which includes a firewall can prevent connection too, and just disabling its firewall might not be good enough to get through. If you use the Windows firewall, it can be disabled as a test.

Disabling reboot on failure

The default is for automatic restarts which does not let you see the error message. Power off your computer, turn it on; immediately hit F8 several times a SECOND; You'll get a screen that will have a number of options, one of which is turn off automatic restart. Check that.
Now you will get a "blue screen" message that will help diagnose the real problem.

There is no sound to my computer

wow...okay this can all be resolved if u uninstall and reinstall the driver... easiest way however if the speed of the computer is that important to you u have to revert the steps and add more ram to the computer and disable certain things on the startup menu instead of disabling sound..disable things like messenger progams and torrent programs and music programs from starting at the beginning not necessary things like sound....

I can successfully download the software, "Image Creator 1.5" from Panasonic's web site but then when I try to install it I get an error message, "Error reading file." Could it be...

The downloaded file is probably corrupt/didn't download properly, or there could be a conflict with another software. A "clean boot" may resolve the symptoms you are experiencing. Booting clean is a way to eliminate programs from conflicting with installation of software.

Download the latest version of the software for XP from the manufacturer's website.

1. Click Start --> Run --> Type MSCONFIG --> Click OK
2. On the General tab, choose Selective Startup
3. Uncheck Process SYSTEM.INI file
4. Uncheck Process WIN.INI file
5. Uncheck Load Startup Items
6. Click on the Services tab
7. At the bottom, check Hide All Microsoft Services
8. Uncheck all boxes in the window or click the button labeled Disable All
6. Click OK
7. Click Restart

After restarting, reinstall the downloaded software. Next, do the following:

1. Click Start --> Run --> Type MSCONFIG--> Click OK
2. Replace checkmarks in the items that you previously removed them from.
3. On the General tab, choose Normal Startup
4. Click OK
5. Click YES, when asked to restart your computer

Hope that helps...Should you have any further questions, please feel free to post them here.

P.S. Before you assign a rating, please make sure that the issue is resolved or you are satisfied. If not, please post back as to what you did, and/or any other questions you may have, and I will try to assist you as best I can. Please do not assign an ‘Inappropriate’ or ‘Thanks for trying’ rating if your issue is not resolved after the first response itself, as sometimes a bit of to and fro dialogue may be necessary before we can find a fix or an answer to your query.

If you find that the solution/answer I provided led you to, or resulted in a fix, please close the ticket with a FixYa! rating. I would be very grateful for your show of appreciation.

Thank you for using FIXYA!

Cheers!

Emachine 5210

Emachines used to use a poor quality power supply made by Bestec, I believe the quality is supposed to have improved in the last few years but inconsidering the number of dead Emachines that wind up in my workshop I doubt it.
The problem you have is that being a poor quality power supply there is a very high risk that it damaged the motherboard when it went out.
If you can borrow a power supply just to test with all the beter BUT be carefull some Emachines are proprietary and the main motherboard plug is not always wired in the standard way.
Check here for a replacement power supply if you can prove your motherboard to be OK.

Have a look on this site for examples of standard and proprietary power supply wiring colours.

Just right click the icons at the bottom right of the screen (near the system clock). This will throw up a menu from where you can disable the software.

Thanks, I'll call my old ISP!

Your ISP's proprietary software should detect whether your modem is getting dial tone or not, so that's how I would check the modem. Another way to test the modems connectivity would be to connect an active phone line to the in port and a landline phone to the out port and see if the phone gets dial tone?

I don't think you need to worry about disabling your network connections as there should be no conflict especially since you have no network cable attached (your ethernet/networking card will sense a connection or not).

Keep me posted.
