Question about Sony Computers & Internet

Open Question

Hi, I have a VAIO model PCG-6L1L. Some liquid was spilled on the keyboard and the next day the LCD and the connector for an external screen is not working. The laptop seems to bootup just fine I just can't see anything. I was told the video chip on the motherboard was bad and since it is soldered on I have to replace the motherboard. Is this true and do you have this motherboard? Todd

SOURCE: LCD flashes and flickers, partial display of bootup and then black screen

Try the following:

Sometimes when you press and hold the corners of the LCD area (not on the LCD itself, but on the frame), and see if it gives you a picture (or at least flickers when you do so).

My opinion is that your LCD could need rewiring or replacing.

I have spilled just a spoon of water on my laptop, after it the keyboard is not working a t all, i cant even log into bios. i have sony vaio vgn z series laptop, i tried to delete the driver, and when...

When this happens, you should fully disassemble the laptop & thoroughly inspect its inside. Look for any traces of liquid on the circuit boards & on other components. On circuit boards, liquid damage appears in the form of whitish traces. These needs to be wiped off. This can be done using a tooth brush moistened with few drops of hand sanitizer liquid.
Check all internal connectors & make sure that no liquid seeped into them. Dry them if needed.
When you are done, re-assemble back the laptop.
If the liquid fell on the keyboard & you found out that the keyboard is no longer working, then you will have to replace the keyboard.

Hi . is vgn sz430n the same as PCG 6Q1L ?? I

Yes, VGN-SZ430N is similar to the PCG-6Q1L.
The only difference between the two coding is that the first one is the model # of the Computer used by the technical support team or sales support team for providing assistance however, the later is the Hardware configuration code of the Computer that categorizes a few models.

I have spilt coffee over my Sony Vaio PCG-FX501 and now it will not boot. I would like to try to repair it but don't know where to start. Can anyone help please?

if you've spilled sugary liquids over electronic devices, the most common problem is power supply. The power is not getting through to your laptop. Try taking out all the power supplyl; ac power cord, battery, and any other external devices (ipods, usb cables, etc.) Next, dry out your laptop. The most effective way, for me at least, is to open your laptop so that the keyboard and screen is perpendicular to each other Then, turn it upside down and let it hang over the desk. This way the keyboard part is resting upside down, while the flat surface is resting on your desk while the screen hangs over the edge

Screen is white

You could have a video controller problem or a LCD screen problem, what you are seeing is the backlighting but no video information.
To check if you have a video problem, connect an external monitor to your laptop and bootup your laptop, if you see Windows booting up the external monitor then the video controller is OK, and your problem is the LCD screen or the video cable connection on the motherboard (may need reseating).
If you cannot fix the LCD screen then use your laptop with an external monitor.

LCD laptop screen

It is definitely the screen or the inverter. Usually the screen and inverter come as one piece. I would check with the manufacturer. Unfortunately for you, the LCD is one of the most expensive parts to replace on a laptop.

Just the simple fact of you mentioning that it works fine with an external monitor tells me that its not the video card. If it was the video card, you would see the exact same thing happening on your external monitor as well.

Hope this helps!
