You may use other connections located on the back of your TV. For example...if you use a satellite box or cable box you may bypass the RF connector and go directly into your A/V jacks! The boxes will have input/output connections as well! To repair your RF connector may prove to be costly at about 100 to 200 bucks. So bypassing is still a very good idea...and you will save$. And the signal will be improved for viewing! Good Luck and thanks for asking.

The back of the cable box should have a red, white and yellow RCA jacks. The red is right speaker the white is left speaker and yellow is your video. Now, you may even have a super video on the cable box as well. Use this instead of the yellow RCA jack. If you are not familiar with an RCA jack...they look just like the old slide plugs used for the older speaker wire into the stereo. Hope this helps you. Ask again if you have questions!

Well if you are good with a soldering iron you could put another female plug on. Locate the solder points on the chassis where wthe coax was soldered. put a new piece of coax on and attach to the correct plug type which you can get from Jcar or Tandy. Then use some fibreglass glue to reattach and ancho it to the back of the set. Then plug as normal.
1 Word of advice, Turn TV off when openi9ng itt up and soldering, also ground the chassis, as some sets use the chassis as live return path.

Thanks for using FIXYA

I dont know how to solder. i wish i did. The thing completely broke off and i dont think there is anything to attach any type of replacement to..I am screwed arent I?

  • dennis bullard Jun 04, 2010

my philosophy is never say die! These things can be fixed. So you can't solder, so what? There has to be someone locally who can replace this part. Technically it is two wires a copper one inside nylon casing and the other is braid. Ther copper goes down the centre inside the pin and the other ( braid to the outside of the barrel. Simple and easy, for any handy guy with a soldering iron.

Now i take it that you are not in no mans land like i am, so take the broken item to the local electronics expert, explain your need and have him replace this $1 component from where it broke off. At best it can even hang loose with a dual barrel female joiner to connect the two cables. So don't give up and think you are screwed. We are remote to your problem, so no amount of waiting is going to get it fixed by remote miracles. The fix has to be done by you taking the advice and motivating yourself to take it in to have it repaired. as I said its a few bucks to fix, not hundreds and certainly not impossible! So pick yourself, get over the shock of breaking it and have it fixed in a jiffy.

If you get a cable box or vcr with RCA out jacks you can. Just pick an RCA video in to TV and switch it to that. Composite or the single yellow depending on what way you choose for input device.

Would that mean buying a rca brand device like you mentioned? Dvd player perhaps? I dont know the "language" of the colors or what they are for..I am relly new at this..I just dont want to throw a tv I paid a thousand dollars for away after 24 months ya know...i am assuming that you said i can hook it up with like AVI cables if i get a specific device to go between, would a best=buy have something like what you say i need?

  • Jason Johnson Jun 05, 2010

The cable box should have some rca cable output, if not ask the cable company for one that does. Shouldnt cost you any more then output from cable box to input of TV.

How do you hook up cable box using coaxial in hdmi out

If your cable box has an HDMI OUT connector you simply connect the HDMI cable to the TV and the coaxial cable from the cable company to the coaxial input on the cable box. Then select the HDMI input on the TV that matches the number of the HDMI input port you chose on the back of the TV.

I have a cable paid for but My male coaxial cable from the wall doesn't fit into the antenna-in on the UN40c7000. It seems I need a coaxial cable adapter. I can't find the right size. How can you help?

Is the connector coming out of the wall too big or too small for the connector on the TV? If too big you should be able to still plug it in it will just be loose, and you can check that your signal is working etc.

This is very strange as coaxial cables have a very standard size, and do not vary. Unless it is a mini coax cable which is very tiny and right off the bat you can tell it wont fit. If that is the case then you need to get a converter.

Otherwise you may be able to use something like this http://www.amazon.com/10pcs-Frequency-Barrel-Connectors-Couplers/dp/B0037JB75S/ref=sr_1_cc_1?s=aps&ie=UTF8&qid=1381528325&sr=1-1-catcorr&keywords=coaxial+barrel
and tape the one end and use a regular cable to your TV. I would first purchase another cable and ensure that it will fit on the TV to ensure the connector on the TV is indeed the right size.

I have an older tv with only a coaxial cable connection on the back, no others. I have a Magnavox dvd/vcr combo that does have RCA connections available and also a coaxial cable connection on the back. I...

First make sure you have the cable connected properly.. on the vcr it should be connected to the OUT coaxial connector.

Second.. the VCR usually has a VCR/TV setting..

Most TV's must be set to channel 3 or channel 4 to output the signal from the VCR when getting the signal via Coax.

So..insert a tape...hit play..tune the tv to channel 3 if you are not getting the playback signal..press the VCR/TV button on the vcr or vcr remote.

Repeat this on Channel 4

Check your cable to make sure the connections are tight.

Finally check your television menus for Input settings..make sure it is set to COAX/ANT
Make sure your VCR's output is not on some alternate output like L1 or L2 (line one or line two)

Best of luck!

YOu will need a box that will convert your coaxial signal (cable) into a another using either Composite (RCA wires) or component (Yr,Yb, Yg) outputs. Your local radio shack should be able to accommodate you

Broken coax connection on back of unit

If you are comfortable doing some small repair work, you might be able to fix this with stuff you have laying around.

All you need is:
1 - 8" piece of coaxial cable with male connector on one end
1 - set of RCA cables (Red/White/Yellow)
1 - coaxial coupler
2 - small wire nuts

electrical tape

Take the back housing off of your TV. You may have to unscrew the small nut holding the threaded connector to the TV. This threaded connector should connect to the motherboard with a male RCA prong that should be soldered to the component on the motherboard. You will need to carefully cut
& remove the old soldering & wiggle the connector off. This is the hardest part, but it WILL come off with a little trying.

Now get your coax cable and strip off about 2" of the black outside housing ONLY. Your solid copper` interior cable should be protected by a small plastic coating which is covered in braided wire. You'll need to be careful not to cut the braiding off. Untangle the braiding down to where your cut stops and try and get it all on one side of the cable so you can twist it all together and make a nice wire. Now strip about an inch off of your interior plastic sheathing to reveal the small solid copper wire on the very inside.

Get your RCA cable and cut about 6" off of the one yellow side. Follow the same process above to get a braided sheathing wire and a solid copper wire. Attach this yellow wire to the coaxial cable by twisting the two braided wires together and the two solid copper wires together. Use your wire nuts & electrical tape to secure your connections making sure none of the wires can touch each other.

Connect the yellow cable's male prong into the component on the motherboard and attach your coaxial coupler to the male end of your coaxial cable. If you saved the small nut from earlier, you can re-attach this new coupler to the housing on your TV. Screw your housing back on the TV and you should be good to go.

Hot to hook up cable

This monitor with a television tuner does not have a coaxial connection. I was able to get cable by connecting (buying if you don't have) to my dvd/vcr which had the coaxial connectors. Then I ran the video component cable (green, blue & red - had to buy that) from the tv to the dvd/vcr. Then I ran the audio cable (red & white) from the tv to the dvd/vcr. A little tricky figuring out where on the tv to actually connect but eventually got it. YUV2 on the side.

If you need to hook up to the barrel connector for cable or sat. you can use a converter box(Radio Shack) or VCR which both have a cable connection and then send it out component or Svideo.
