Question about Singer 3820 Mechanical Sewing Machine

1 Answer

Needle stops when it goes into the machine.

When I tried to change the bobbin the needle does not go all the way into the machine to catch the bobbin thread. Can I fix this myself?

Hi

Thanks for using FixYa. Is the bobbin case pushed all the way in? Is your needle up too high or down too low in the needle holder? The upper thread could be tangled. Remove the thread completely from the machine. The correct size spool cap should be used for the size of the thread spool and then re-thread the machine. Try lowering it a little and see if that helps and use a scrap of material to test it out. Make sure the flat part of the needle rests on the flat part of the holder. You probably need to insert a new needle. Please do accept the solution if the issue is resolved or post a comment for further assistance.

Thanks

Rylee

Won't catch bobbin thread

hi Shauna.
this is all i could find out from the internet.
Make sure the presser foot is up when seating the thread through the upper tension. Now, it's time to draw up your bobbin thread. Turn the hand wheel (TOWARDS YOU ONLY, never turn the hand wheel away from you) and hold the needle thread lightly. Tug on it as the needle goes down and then comes up again.
if this is off no help to you go to this link and see if its any good to you.

On a Singer Quantum 9940, the upper thread will not 'catch' the bobbin thread. What should I try to do?

Make sure that your needle is all the way up. With many needle clamps, loosening it enough to remove a needle is not enough to insert one -- you have to loosen it a little bit more. You can determine that by looking right above the clamp on the shaft -- there is what looks like a grey bar and the end of the needle should be right under it. If your needle is too low, it will not catch the thread.

I have a consew 225 I think and when I try to bring the thread up from the bobbin the thread from the needle goes down and around the bobbin to bring up the bobbin thread and catches. It will not pass

Your machine probably needs to be adjusted and timed. But make sure you clean under the bobbin area before you try again... or take it to a machine pro

When the needle goes down into the bobin area below, it catches on the "round about", so the whole point is that it misses the thread, and doesn't catch it, what can i do to fix this??

It sounds like your problem is as simple as either a bent needle or a bobbin casing that is inserted improperly. First, change your needle being mindful of the type of fabric (and thread) you are using (e.g. Size 11 ballpoint for a light knit or a size 18 jeans needle for denim). Make sure that the bobbin casing is set in correctly, and that the bobbin goes in the correct way. (i.e. Counter-clockwise for a drop-in style bobbin). This should solve your issue. Happy sewing!

Bobbin thread won't catch with needle thread

check that the needle is in the right way round i.e. with cut out on the needle facing into the machine. if this is fine then check that as the needle comes back up from the lowest point that it goes to, that the point on the bobbin case passes just above the hole in the needle, i.e. in the middle of the cut out.(if not it needs re timing) if threaded a small loop should appear at this point for the bottom bobbin to catch if not slacken the top thread and try again.

Bottom thread will not catch

Unplug the machine and remove the needle plate so that the bobbin case if fully exposed. Lift out the bobbin case and the cup that it sets in will be visible. Locate the "hook" on this cup. It is a finger with a sharp point at the upper edge of the cup. The hook is what grabs the thread from the needle while sewing.
  • Thread the needle.
  • Turn the handwheel by hand.
  • Watch the hook as it approaches the needle from right to left.
If the hook passes by the needle AFTER the eye of the needle is above it, you timing has slipped and the machine must be taken in for repair.
If the hook catches the thread from the needle, put everything back together and try threading again.
